Lake Wales Family YMCA Recreational Co-ed Softball Rules
General Rules
Teams may have 10 players on the field, with a minimum of 3 being female.
Teams may have 18 players on their roster with a minimum of 3 females. Rosters must be
finalized by the 2nd game week.
All players must be 21 and up.
All money must be collected by the 2nd game week or each game will be forfeited until the
money is received.
We will play 7 innings or 1 hour, whichever comes first.
There will be a 5 run per inning rule. The final inning is “open” and as many runs as possible can
be scored.
We will play a mandatory 5 innings with a 10 run rule after the 5th inning.
Batting
You start every at bat with one ball and one strike
Any hit ball that contacts the center safety net will be a dead ball out.
Courtesy Foul Rule
o If a player has 2 strikes and they hit a foul ball they are not out
 They must keep the next hit fair or they are out
No bunting
You can bat up to 13 players
You can bat your players in any order; it does not have to be boy girl boy girl.
If a foul ball is head high and caught by the catcher the batter is out
Teams get 1 home run per inning; any more home runs will be an out.
Base Running
Each team is allowed one male pinch runner and one female pinch runner per inning
o The runner must be the last male out for a male and the last female out for a female
If a player can bat but not run the last person out of the same sex will start with their hand on
the fence and run when the ball is hit.
No leading off
No stealing
Pitching
The pitch can reach a maximum of 10ft and come into the hitter at a minimum of 4ft
Any pitch that hits the strike mat is a strike
If a male is walked and a female is on deck she has the option to hit or walk to first base.
Fielding
When a woman is batting the outfielders must start behind the cones, once the ball is hit they
can move forward to field it.
There is no rule regarding your pitcher and catcher being of opposite sex.
There is no rule regarding gender at any specific position, your players can play where they
want.
