Primary purpose of the role The Library Assistant undertakes a broad range of to support the full range of library and information services to internal and external stakeholders. . Key accountabilities Providing timely, client-focused services, to internal and external stakeholders adhering to professional library standards and supporting open government. Collate the monthly operating statistics and ensure that patron records are accurate. Circulation and shelving of print material. Source material for staff from external sources as required using the Libraries Australia document delivery system. . Assist the librarian in maintaining the accuracy of library records in the Libraries Australia database.. Assist the librarian in collection management including copy cataloguing and suggesting material for purchase where necessary. Key challenges The library is a high volume work area with continuous demands placed upon its staff. The major challenge of the position is to manage time and priorities effectively, ensuring that the library meets the needs of its users both internal and external. Needs to be familiar with online library tools including using e-books and journals. 1 The Library Assistant needs to exercise initiative and judgement when sourcing material for staff, particularly when the librarian is absent. .
