Christian Moral Life:
The Beatitudes and the Ten
Commandments
-God created us to know, love, and serve him
in this life and to be happy with him forever in
the afterlife
The Beatitudes
-Jesus shared them at the Sermon on the
Mount
-Show us how to fulfill our desire for
happiness and teach how we should live in
order to reach our eternal destiny of union
with him
The Beatitudes
-Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven
-Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit
the land
-Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they shall be satisfied
-Blessed are the merciful, they will be shown
mercy
The Beatitudes
-Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will
see God
-Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be
called children of God
-Blessed are they who are persecuted for the
sake of righteousness, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven

lust
Lust - vice of a disordered craving for or enjoyment
of sexual pleasure, apart from how God intended us
to use our sexual powers
-Virtue of purity helps in the struggle against lust

of sexuality:

-Children are a gift of marriage
-May use moral methods of increasing fertility
-Donating sperm or eggs, human cloning all
contradict God’s plan for bringing forth new life
-Couples with difficulty having children are
encouraged to adopt or serve others in creative
and compassionate ways
Following acts go against God’s intention
for marriage:
Adultery
Divorce
Polygamy
You Shall Not Steal, You Shall Not Covet
Anything That Belongs to Your Neighbor

stewards of our material possessions
-related virtue of temperance teaches us that we
should not become too attached to our belongings
