Critical Area Response Manager (CARM)

Critical Area Response Manager (CARM):
A Solution for Homeland Security and Public Safety
MapInfo’s Critical Area Response Manager (CARM) is a web based application
designed for the visualization of Homeland Security and Public Safety related data as
well as the rapid analysis, planning and execution of a response incidents or
disasters. CARM is well suited for the statewide or regional monitoring and control of
Homeland Security and Public Safety situations. Critical Area Response Manager
serves government agencies responsible for planning, prevention, detection,
response and recovery from threats and disasters. In addition, this application serves
as a primary e-Government solution to enhance information sharing and
collaboration within agencies and across jurisdictions throughout the nation.
rapid analysis, action planning, and response around declared areas as a result of an
incident or disaster.
CARM provides a PSAP level software component that concentrates data and
information from a variety of software and electrical interfaces at a PSAP level, and
broadcasts via secure mechanism in a standardized XML format to CARM.
The PSAP level software component increases the depth of CARM’s ability to satisfy
critical user needs, and to directly support access to:

Wireless and wireline E9-1-1 call locations.

Real-time vehicle locations and status (AVL).

CAD incident data.

Wireless alarm, monitoring, and sensor display.
Critical Area Response Manager also allows you to take control and command critical
situations. You can:

CARM - A Solution for Homeland Security and Public Safety
The live demonstration illustrates how MapInfo's location-based technology helps
government agencies with specific critical challenges associated with information
sharing and intelligence-at-a-glance. The demonstration showcases must-have
capabilities that government agencies need to better protect, serve and respond.
With the uncertainty of our security and safety looming, MapInfo offers an
application that arms you with complex problem solving capabilities and a means to
successfully command overwhelming situations.
Through a simple intuitive web user interface and control panel, multiple intelligent
map queries and analysis can be performed to solve mission critical problems.
Critical Area Response Manager includes a wide variety of critical infrastructure data
across the United States, including Electric Power, Natural Gas and Communications
infrastructure and allows you to perform location analysis queries through multiple
paths such as by address, by phone number, by specific region and by single and
multipoint input. Since the Critical Area Response Manager can be highly customized,
it can be used in virtually every area within government that is responsible for some
aspect of homeland security such as emergency management, city planning, IT
departments, first responders and e-Government.
CARM lets you tag addresses, visualize the addresses on a map, set up control
points, re-route, create response management areas and so much more! Tabs along
the top of the page help you to easily navigate through the applications' functions.
Convenient operating instructions, details and explanations for CARM are displayed
along the left-hand column of your screen. Prior to test-driving CARM, we
recommend printing and reading the CARM Demo Guide. The CARM Demo Guide
(available at the address above) is intended to optimize your experience by providing
the "why" and "how" government-specific problems are solved using MapInfo

technology. For each screenshot, the Demo Guide provides context, instructions, and
tips that include samples that best illustrate the benefits of the MapInfo solution.
The ability of CARM to view and analyze real-time 911 data , AVL Data, CAD data,
and virtually any other data valuable to Public Safety Officials allows a overall view of
the state of the community.
