EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION: Tournament Director REPORTS TO: Director of Operations ORGANIZATION: The New England Section PGA (NEPGA), located in Boylston, Massachusetts, is one of 41 Sections of the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The PGA of America, formed in 1916, has grown into the world's largest working sports organization with more than 27,000 members and apprentices. Its mission is to promote enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to the game's growth by providing services to golf professionals and the industry. The New England Section is one of the founding Sections of the PGA of America, and consists of approximately 1100 golf professionals in Central & Eastern Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. NEW ENGLAND SECTION PGA – MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the New England Professional Golfers' Association is to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and the golf industry. The NEPGA will accomplish this mission by enhancing the skills of its Professionals and the opportunities for amateurs, employers, manufacturers, employees and the general public. In so doing, the NEPGA will elevate the standards of the golf professional's vocation, enhance the economic wellbeing of the individual member, stimulate interest in the game of golf, and promote the overall vitality of the game. EMPLOYMENT DESCRIPTION: The Tournament Director will oversee and manage the Tournament Program of the NEPGA. Including, but not limited to: scheduling, contracting, budgeting, promotion and administration. The Tournament Program will consist of NEPGA Professional events (approximately 40 per year), Assistant Association events, New England Amateur Series events, Junior Programs and Chapter events. • Prepare, manage and be responsible for the Section tournament program budget • Prepare project budgets for every Section tournament (using PGA Budget template) • Direct the creation of Chapter tournament budgets by the Chapter Operations Managers • Prepare and oversee the preparation of the tournament schedule for all Section, Chapter, Qualifier and Pro-Am events. • Work closely with the Chairman of the Tournament Committee to evaluate the Tournament Program and organize Tournament Committee meetings. • Manage or cause to be managed on-site tournament operations for every Section event. • Ensure that all Section major championship courses are properly marked for tournament play • Act as resource to Chapter Operation Managers and events (rules questions, course setup questions, etc). • Develop and maintain an excellent knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf. • Enforce the Tournament Rules & Regulations and Policies & Procedures. • Work with (all that apply) the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, Champions Tour and local tournament offices to schedule PGA volunteers, serve as an official, and reconcile qualifier entry fees. • Work with Tournament Committee to schedule scorers, officials and volunteers for all NEPGA events. • Work with Executive Director and NEPGA Professionals to solicit and retain sponsors for Section and Chapter events. • Work with the Rules Committee to maintain the NEPGA Rules of Play Hard Card used at all NEPGA events. • • Manage tournament supplies and equipment. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Class-A PGA Members in good standing preferred • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent is preferred • Three (3) years of Golf Association experience and a general business background with a working knowledge of the golf industry is preferred • PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshop attendance and exam score, 85 or higher preferred • Candidates must have a strong desire to make golf administration a career • Computer expertise mandatory; proficient in Microsoft and Adobe applications, email, Internet, social media. Section Management System (SMS) and the BlueGolf System preferred • Positive personality with a focus on people and Association membership relations • Knowledge of golf tournament operations including agronomy, playability, golf course set-up, officiating, and sponsor sales • Understanding of negotiation, excellent communication skills, including writing and speaking • Possess excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time • Basic understanding of accounting, accounting procedures and budgeting required including developing and monitoring project budgets • Willing to travel extensively throughout New England to respective events and perform on-site operational duties • Ability to travel and work extended hours including weekends and holidays POSITION/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: 1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position must be able to travel for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation. 2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. 4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 5. The employee must be able to drive the company vehicle/van and/or drive to and from various locations throughout the Section. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation for this position will be comprised of a minimum salary range of $44,000 to $50,000 which will be commensurate with experience.
