The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not
intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so
classified.
I. Scope of Responsibilities: This position is responsible for assisting in the oversight of the
Men’s Baseball program at Grace College.
II. Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must
be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
A. Duties:
1. Coaching:
a. Assist with game preparation and coaching.
b. Assist in the supervision of student athletes from the time practice or activity starts
until the student athletes leave. At no time should the student athletes be without
supervision of a coach.
c. Show respect for officials, press, opposing coaches, visiting teams, parents, fans,
students, athletes, fellow coaches, administrators and teachers.
2. Administrative Responsibilities:
a. Is responsible for the security of all facilities used by the team and coaching staff.
b. Assist the Head Coach in insuring the proper completion of physical examinations
and all forms relating to the examinations, waiver and release form and proof of
insurance form before a student athlete participates in practice.
c. Assist the Head Coach in the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic
equipment, uniforms, and supplies (during the season and at its conclusion) and
for the collection of fees for lost equipment and uniforms by athletes.
d. Attend departmental meetings as requested or required.
e. Assist in the coordination of transportation for team members to all scheduled
events.
f. Perform any other duties or responsibilities related to the coaching position as
needed or directed by the Head Coach.
3. Recruiting and Fundraising:
a. Assist in recruiting student athletes that are a good fit for Grace College.
b. Assist with scouting trips.
c. Participate in fundraising activities and the management of all related details.
4. Student Mentoring and Leadership:
a. Maintain strong leadership among student athletes.
b. Assist with the discipleship of the student athletes under your care by conducting
Bible studies, meeting with players one-on-one, and being available for the team
members.
c. Assist in the coordination of Spring Break or Winter Break trips for team members
in order to establish team unity and cohesiveness.

d. Assist in establishing an environment in which athletes can gain self-esteem and
develop a positive self-image.
e. Demonstrate an interest in the classroom efforts and off-season activities of your
student athletes.
f. Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
g. Work with student athletes in a fair, understanding, and tolerant manner.
h. Notify all members of the team of policies, procedures, and training rules as they
pertain to the team.
i. Is responsible to monitor and address the conduct of the student athlete at
practices and games.
j. Promote unity within the coaching staff and within the framework of the athletic
department.
k. Provide ongoing individual support and guidance for team members.
B. Other Duties:
1. Assist with award presentations.
a. Establish successful teams within the bounds of good sportsmanship.
1. Develop teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, fair play, academic
excellence, and strict adherence to rules of training and conduct.
2. Promote the attitude among student athletes and coaches that winning is
important but is secondary to good sportsmanship and the overall welfare of
the athlete.
III. Performance Areas:

IV. Job Requirements:
A. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or be able
to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job,
with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to safely perform the essential
responsibilities of the job.
B. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in
completing work tasks: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling,
crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing,
sitting, fingering. Able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
C. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments,
and solve problems.
V. Qualifications:
A. Minimum:
1. Bachelor’s degree in the field of physical education, sport management, or related
field.
2. Two years of successful assistant coaching experience or collegiate playing
experience.
3. Proven ability to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in public
speaking contexts.
4. Proven ability to communicate ideas and priorities effectively to promote teamwork
and achieve desired results.
5. Demonstrated strategic planning skills and an ability to assess the team’s competitive
strengths and vulnerabilities.
6. Demonstrated skill in making strategic recommendations to enhance the team’s
performance.
B. Preferred:
Three years of successful college-level assistant coaching experience.
