1 Selby Big Local Small Grants: Big Ideas Background information Small Grants: Big Ideas is a funding pot for community groups in Selby delivered by Selby Big Local. Selby Big Local is a Big Lottery funded community initiative, working to build grassroots community activity and make Selby an even better place to live. A key aim of Selby Big Local puts the local community, and most importantly residents, firmly into the driving seat allowing them to identify local needs, take action and make a difference. We focus particularly on the Abbots and Flaxley Road estates, with a link up across the town centre of Selby (see map below). Over the coming months and years we will be working with other local people living in these areas to deliver new and exciting projects that respond to the needs of people living in these communities. We see the Small Grants: Big Ideas funding pot as an opportunity to give back to some of the fantastic community groups working in Selby and also to support residents with new ideas to bring them to life. 2 The aim of the Small Grants initiative is to help the Selby Big Local area to become an even better place to live by supporting residents to develop projects which address Selby Big Local’s four vision areas. These four vision areas are: Community Involvement and Participation “To see greater community ownership and participation, where people are better connected, contributing to the community and invested in where they live.” Opportunities for Young People “To work with young people to create improved life chances and support them to achieve their ambitions.” Health and Wellbeing “For people of all ages living in Selby to feel emotionally and physically well and to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.” Employment, Skills and Training “For improved access to a range of training, learning and development opportunities for both young people and adults, so they can take positive steps in achieving their full potential” To read the full Selby Big Local Community Action Plan you can download the full document from www.selbybiglocal.org.uk Funding criteria: who can apply?
