Captains Speech
Good Evening Ladies and Gents.
My first year as Lady Captain/Club Captain has been quite an experience and
different from my previous clubs. I thank all the members for their support
during the year along with the Atlantic Beach Management and staff who are
always so helpful, and willing to assist.
I would also like to thank Wilmeen Harris – ex-captain and Sarah Braude – WP
President for all your assistance during the year!
 We currently have about 80 lady members with 30-40 being active
members. (All being good golfers shown by the number of times ladies
win the club competitions in the year!)
 During the year we fielded ladies Scratch, Silver and Bronze teams in the
WP Leagues events. We can be very proud of all the teams with special
mention of our bronze team that were sadly defeated at the semi-final
stage. This year we only have a silver and bronze team, unfortunately we
could not put together enough players for a scratch team this year!
 The Ladies open last year was a great success with 120 participants, with
Liz Usher and Pam Welz coming 3rd, from AB. Planning for the next
Ladies Open in November has already begun.
 The Mixed open started last year September – average about 20 – 40
players, to date we have held 5 mixed opens with great success The mix
will resume again in Spring/Summer 2016/17
 The Captain Verses ex-captain challenge last year was great fun.
Wilmeen ex captain’s team lost.
 The West Coast Challenged started in May, thanks to Keith Turton for
initiating and suggesting a ladies team. The first match took place at
Langebaan with the next match taking place at Milnerton on the 24 July
with another 2 games left and the final game being played at Atlantic
Beach in December and the final results will be announced.
 Our club champs were well attended considering the majority of ladies
were away with 20 ladies participants resulting in the following: Mother
and daughter taking 1st and 2nd Ashleigh Mills and Sharon Mills and
Sonya Behrens in 3rd for silver div. In Bronze div in 1st Elaine Newman,
2nd was Sharlene Jackson and 3rd was Rene v d Merwe.
 Thanks to everyone who participated and assisted.

 Captain verses ex captain Christmas party in Nov/Dec (Wilmeen’s
revenge)
Golf Committee
It was a pleasure working with the golf committee this past year! The
committee being, Mark Muller, Stephan Barker and Keith Turton. Also in our
meetings was Allen, Lynette Usher and Steve Riley.
Notably the men’s captain was absent but Mark, Stephan and Keith did a great
job filling the boots collectively, they also managed the men’s league teams!
Thank you gentlemen.
The ladies section was actively involved in the AB Annual Charity event which
helped raised R50K for the ACVV – For under privileged children in and around
Melkbos.
Our next big event happing at AB is Celebration week. (Let’s celebrate
together)
As Lady Captain/Club Captain/committee member and member I would like to
Thank All AB staff i.e. Proshop staff, Halfway house, the starters, marshals,
reception etc. for your continued support!
I look forward to the year ahead. It will be interesting in that we will have an
additional lady on the committee and will be able to have an even greater
influence.
And with your continued support we can look forward to some challenging
events and competitions on our great golf course.
