Resolution vs. Data rates
• Total data rate is determined
essentially by video resolution
720p/1080i60
= 2.22Gbps
1080p24-2D
= 1.78Gbps
1080p24-3D
= 3.56Gbps
1080p60-2D
= 4.45Gbps
1080p60-3D
= 8.92Gbps
4K (2160p)
= 8.92-9.52Gbps

Current HDMI device limitations
 Data rate potential is limited by silicon in the device
 Transmitter in source devices
 Repeater in AVRs & most extenders
 Receiver in sink devices
 Silicon implementation is developed to cater for demands of the
day
