TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP YOU MUST MEET THE
FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
A resident of the Greater Metro Detroit area AND
A High school graduate entering a 2 year or 4 year institution of higher learning OR
A College Student currently enrolled in a 2 year or 4 year institution of higher learning OR
A Graduate student currently enrolled in a graduate program
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP YOU MUST PROVIDE THE
FOLLOWING:
Application Checklist
1. Proof of college enrollment/attendance
2. Proof of college acceptance/admittance
3. An official recent transcript.
4. A Personal Statement that
a. Describes why you think you should get the scholarship,
b. Details financial need and,
c. Details your Educational Goals, Career Goals and Personal Goals.
5. Proof of income:
a. Dependent students must submit parents/guardian W-2/proof of income;
b. Independent students provide W-2 proof of income
6. Two (2) letters of recommendation:
a. Letters must be from a non-relative (i.e. mentor, counselor/advisor, employer, or pastor/minister).
b. Letters must include the name, address, phone number, and number of years the recommender has
known the applicant.
7. One (1) essay (500 words or less) addressing the following:

NASP is a professional trade organization that advocates for financial literacy and wealth building
especially within the minority community. Please describe in detail how you plan to establish a
financial legacy for your family and extended community and what the impact will be

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CHECKLIST
In order to be considered for a NASP-Detroit/Shafter Terry III Scholarship, you MUST submit a complete
scholarship application package by the designated due date: June 30, 2017; 5pm EST. Failure to submit all of the
required documentation may automatically disqualify you from scholarship consideration.

submitting your application, please review your application to ensure you have completed the following:
