Thank you! • Replacements cost $5 (cash) Language Arts • New Adoption for Language Arts implemented this year. • Social Studies will continue to be taught in its entirety, but will be more fully integrated with Language Arts than in previous years. • Each student will need a three ring binder and a composition book for taking notes. (suggested) AR Tests • AR test are required every two weeks. • The requirement is 600 pages read per trimester, about 50 pages per week. • My requirement uses pages, not points. Scores will be finalized three times a trimester. • Quiz score: please record scores in the PACK Planner on p. 23. AR Tests con. • First test due by the end of August • A biography/autobiography of someone who has affected history will be required in September. Can be done in August if that works better. • Please let me know whose life story you choose before beginning to read. Extra credit quiz may be taken online a day or two before the test. • Extra credit given for boxes of tissues. PACK Period • Personally Achieving Character & Knowledge • This period features differentiated instruction to various levels of academic performance. Students are placed in homogenous groups. • Students will alternate weeks M-Th for language arts and math. • Friday: Character Focus. Students stay in homeroom for activities related to monthly character traits. Homework • Expect homework nightly M-Th • Occasionally follow-up homework is assigned on the weekend • District policy is 1 ½ hours nightly for homework, excluding outside reading • Extension of class work • Projects assigned with specific instructions and deadlines • PACK Planner should be completed daily • Teacher Web updated daily & may be used as backup for absences and other questions Weekly Work Folder • Weekly work folders will be sent home on Mondays with completed assignments. Please review with your student and check grades on ESPRI. Then sign the PACK planner on p. 24 indicating that you are aware of your student’s grades. Thank you! • We do require the parent signature as confirmation that parents are aware of their student’s grades. • No surprises! Grading Procedures • Grades are available online 24/7 via Aeries.net • Access on Etiwanda or Day Creek Website • Your student will receive a sign-in name and password. Parents have their own password. • Grades are based on: tests, quizzes, projects, homework, class work. Participation plays an important role. Academic Honesty • Please see the copy found near the sign-in sheet. It outlines district policy. Academic Honesty Policy Day Creek Intermediate School requires all students to demonstrate academic honesty and to abide by ethical standards in preparing and presenting student work, collaborating during group projects, and completing classroom tests/assessments. Grades should reflect the student's own work in the fairest possible way. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to: cheating, plagiarism, fabrication of information or citations, facilitating acts of academic dishonesty by others and to others, altering grades, unauthorized prior possession of examinations, submitting work of another person or work previously used without informing and securing the teacher’s written/verbal approval, or tampering with the academic work of other students. Consequences for Academic Dishonesty *Any evidence of academic misconduct may warrant a failing grade, removal from leadership positions/extracurricular activities, progressive office discipline, lowering of citizenship mark, and/or forfeiting eligibility to receive schoolwide honors, awards and/or recognition.
