GO CANADA GO!
With the Beijing
Olympics starting this
week, I wanted to
take the time to wish
your country's
athletes good luck. As
a proud Canadian, I'll
be cheering on my
team and when
watching the
Olympics, remember
us when you see a
Canadian participating. And I also wanted to wish our Chinese
agents the best of luck as you get set to welcome all the
athletes and fans coming to your beautiful country.

Game designers and developers wanted!
Algonquin College,
through the School of
Media and Design, is
offering an innovative
program in Game
Development, and was
proud to see its
first students graduate
this summer...especially
as most of them
already have a job!
Massive industry demand in regions of Canada, the United
States and throughout the world led to the creation of the
program. is the first program in Canada concentrating on
game design and development recognized by the Ministry of
Education in the province of Ontario. "There are about 25
different career paths for game developers," says Tanya
Hawley, co-ordinator and creator of the three-year program.
"Game designers, developers, programmers, and engineers
are the main employment opportunities. But jobs like graphic
designer or software developer are other options. Animator;
sound designer, game tester, level and character designer or
video creators are other possibilities." The program is almost
entirely project-based - meaning students create games and
their components during their three years of study, rather
than write tests, exams or essays.

Developer Program with your students!
