THE LEGACY – COACH JOHN WOODEN
John R. Wooden left a monumental legacy. He has been inducted
into the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach, won
ten National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships
within twelve years—seven in a row, with four undefeated seasons. His
teams still hold the men’s record for consecutive wins with 88. He was
awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom and had college basketball’s
highest award named after him. He co-authored 19 books – 14 in his
80s and 90s.
He taught, spoke to, and mentored thousands of prominent and
successful people into his 99th year. That legacy is the stuff of legends,
but being a legend was never something John Wooden ever considered.
He spent his lifetime tirelessly working on being a teacher-coaching
and serving others. It was self-less and reflected how he hoped to be
remembered: “I would like to be remembered as someone who was
considerate of others”.
Has there ever been a time when there was more of an urgent need
for a humble, high character, servant leader? Could there be someone
to be a role model to teach, coach, and mentor current and future
generations. Was there someone whose entire life reflected
what foundational values like “being considerate of
others”, really meant? This is that time when such an
urgent need exists .And without question, that
role model is Coach John Robert Wooden.
THE MISSION BEGINS
18 years ago I had the life changing blessing and
opportunity to meet, work with, be mentored by,
and develop a friendship and business partnership
with legendary UCLA basketball coach, philosopher,
author and teacher, Coach John R. Wooden and
his family. Our relationship began as a project and
consulting engagement to help Toyota Motor Sales
U.S.A., launch the University of Toyota, and teach
corporate executives, managers, and Toyota dealers
how to be more effective coaches and leaders.
That project for a single client became the genesis for
a mission. The mission became to share and spread
the values, principles, life lessons, and wisdom of
America’s greatest coach and teacher to as many
people as possible-in business, schools, organizations
and homes.
Coach Wooden teaches “all good things take time
and they should”. We have worked hard and invested
heavily for 18 years in responding to that mission.
But the mission has gotten bigger, more important,
and there is a greater sense of urgency, in a culture
that seems to have forgotten the fundamentals and
foundations that made America great. That is why,
now, we need you to join the team, and embrace this

The John R Wooden Course Certified Coaching Event will take place in
Temecula, California; at the Springhill Marriott Suites, just minutes away from
picturesque Temecula Valley wine country, historic Old Town Temecula, Pechanga
Casino entertainment and 6 Championship golf courses. Classroom Workshops and
Forums will be at the hotel location each day except Wednesday, the 14th. On that day
we will be offsite for the JRWC Team Camp experience, which combines a basketball
facility and the classroom. Court shoes and work out gear will be needed that day. Team
Camp shirts will be provided.
Event will begin with hotel check-in and welcome reception, Sunday evening, June
11,, 5:30-7:00pm. The Course will conclude Friday June 16 at 5pm. Hotel check-out
is either Friday the 16thor Saturday, June 17th.
Enrollment will be limited to 30 team members. This will keep the experience
highly participatory, interactive, and give each participant personal attention and
coaching.
All classes and The Team Camp will be taught and lead by Mr. Lynn Guerin, the founder
and creator of The John R. Wooden Course, and his partner and member of The Wooden
family, Mr. Craig Impelman. Mr. Swen Nater-former UCLA Bruin center, NBA All-Star,
author, and poet will be a guest coach at the Team Camp event.
Transportation:
Each team member is responsible for their own transportation to and from airports
and to the hotel. Hotel check-in will begin at 3p.m. on June 11. Check-out is at noon
on Saturday, June 17th. Flights out of departure locations should be booked
Saturday or Sunday to enjoy the complete experience.
Dining:
Breakfast for all team members will be provided each day at the Hotel. Lunch will also be
provided each day, and is included in the enrollment fee. Dinner is on your own MondayTuesday-Thursday and Friday evening. The John R Wooden Course will host a team dinner
Wednesday evening following Team Camp.
Weather:
Temperatures in mid-June in the Temecula Valley are fore casted to be in a range of
80 degrees-85 degrees during the day, with evening temperatures in a range of 60 to
68 degrees. Dress casual and comfortable.
