THE FA CUP
The first FA cup final was played on March 16th 1872 in Kennington Oval, London. Out of a total of
15 teams the two in the final were the Wanderers of London and Royal Engineers from the British
army and were said to be one of the best teams in English football. The final result was 1-0 to
Wanderers, with a total of only 2,000 spectators, compared to the 89,283 in the 2014-15 final.
An estimated 7,000 teams can enter the FA cup every year, but the final comes down to two teams
and only one winner. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have won the won the
most FA cup titles, with Arsenal coming in first with 12 FA cup wins, Manchester United in second

THE CURRENT FA CUP
The current FA Cup is now in its fifth round, the round before the quarter finals. The most recent
matches have been quite eventful, with Manchester United beating Shrewsbury 3-0, Arsenal
smashing Hull City 4-0, and Chelsea thrashing Manchester City 5-1. Upcoming matches in the quarter
finals include Reading and Crystal Palace, Everton and Chelsea, Arsenal and Watford, and
Manchester United and West Ham.
There have also been protests about certain things, such as wheelchair access and ticket prices. The
reason this has been happening is because disabled visitors are complaining about the wheelchair
access because people in wheelchairs aren’t able to see the match. Ticket prices have also risen from
around £50 to around £70 for normal seats, and now final tickets with the best possible seats are
£425 per person!
Henry Cursham is the current top goal scorer in the FA Cup with 49 goals; he has held the record
since 1887. All his goals came between his 10 years at Notts County from 1877 to 1887. He also has
the most appearances in the FA cup with 43 while at Notts County.
