Doors open at 6:00 pm. Four matches will be happening at a time—two matches in each gym. Matches are the won by the team that wins 2 out of 3 games. Or drop off at the same address between 8 am and 4 pm You pick a name for your team. We will use this name to call for your team at the tournament. Six players start each game, so teams must have six members. Teams may have a seventh player that serves as a substitute. Teams are co-ed and must include at least two boys and two girls. At least two boys and two girls must start each game. Please circle M for male and F for female for each player. You can use a team member or a parent as the contact person. The Boys and Girls Club of Rockford, Rockford Lutheran School, The Rockford Lutheran High School Association of the Greater Rockford Area, their member churches, any of their directors, employees, officers or board members, volunteers, coaches and agents are exempt from any liability associated with these players during the Delirious for Dodgeball tournament. Players assume all risks associated while participating in dodgeball and waives any claims against the owner or the property on which the activity is held. The terms hereof shall serve as a release and assumption of risk for my heirs, executor, administrator, assignees and all members of my family. Games are won when all of the players of a team are eliminated. Each game has a five minute time limit. If no team has been fully eliminated, the team with the most people remaining at the end of five minutes wins. If the teams have the same number of people remaining, it becomes sudden death and the team with the next player eliminated loses. Each game begins with 6 balls in the middle of the court. Two referees will monitor each match and will make all decisions regarding players that are out. Full rules and the tentative tournament bracket are available at www.rockfordlutheran.org. Parents and friends are invited to attend and cheer on their favorite team! Boys & Girls Club of ROCKFORD 5th Grade Dodgeball Tournament Rules Rule 1—Eligibility A. Must be in grade 5. B. Participants can only play on one team for the duration of the tournament. Rule 2—Equipment A. All players must wear clean athletic shoes. B. All jewelry must be removed before play. C. Dodgeballs will be provided by the tournament host. D. Teams must use provided equipment. E. Teams are encouraged to wear matching or same color shirts. F. Hats and bandanas cannot be worn. Rule 3—Court A. The court will be a rectangle—volleyball court. B. The court shall be marked with sidelines, end lines, attack lines, and a center line. C. Boundary infractions: 1. During play, a player exits the courts, except to retrieve a ball. The player is out of bounds if any part of their body touches the ground outside of the boundaries. 2. During play, any part of a player’s body contacts the ground over the center line. Penalty—The player is declared out. D. Players who are out will have a designated area to remain. E. No fans may be on either end of the court. Fans are to only sit on the sides of the court. Fans may roll balls back onto the court, but cannot toss the ball to any player. Rule 4—Players A. A team will consist of 6 or 7 players. B. Each team must start each game with 6 players with the only exception being that the team can start with 5 if an injury or other situation has caused a 6th player to not be available. C. Teams are co-ed and must include at least two boys and two girls. At least two boys and two girls must start each game. D. Substitutions cannot be made during a game. Rule 5—Play A. Matches are won by the team that wins 2 out of 3 games. B. Each game will have a five minute time limit. C. Games are over when all of the players of a team are eliminated or the five minutes has expired. D. After five minutes, if no team has been fully eliminated, the team with the most people remaining wins. If the teams have the same number of people remaining, it becomes sudden death and the team with the next player eliminated loses. E. Referees will declare which team starts on which side of the court. The teams will alternate sides after each game. F. Each game begins with 6 balls along the centerline. Players line up behind their end line and may run to retrieve the balls when the referee blows a whistle to start play. G. Each ball retrieved from the center line at the beginning of the game must be taken back behind the attack line before it can be thrown at an opponent. H. A leading team cannot possess / control all balls for more than 6 seconds. If the leading team has all of the balls, they must make every effort to get a ball over the center line. If this is not done, a violation is called and the leading team must surrender all but one ball. I. A person is eliminated if he/she … is hit below the shoulders by a live ball thrown by the other team before the ball hits the ground. If the player ducks and this is clearly the cause for the player being hit above the shoulders, they are out. throws a live ball and it is caught by the other team before it hits the ground. deflects a ball thrown by the other team with a ball that the player is holding and that held ball drops to the ground. steps out of bounds during play, except to retrieve a ball. J. As soon as a ball is deflected by a held ball, it is no longer a live ball and cannot get anyone out. Rule 6—Team Names A. All teams must be appropriate. The tournament organizer decide the appropriateness of team names. Rule 7—Awards A. Awards will be given to the first, second and third place teams.
