Netball Match Reports Year 7 John Cabot Academy vs King`s Oak

Netball Match Reports Year 7 John Cabot Academy vs King’s Oak Academy Score: 10 – 0 WIN Captain: Asha Mir Player of the Match: Asha Mir Another good win from JCA. We started the match winning the first centre pass. Within a couple of minutes, we took an early lead with our first goal. Throughout the game there was some great shooting from Libby George and Izzy Walker from some very difficult positions within the semi‐circle. Centre court players worked well together with some good feeding into the circle. When the ball did get back into our defence we soon managed to regain possession and limit King’s Oak’s opportunity to score. The final score was JCA 10 – Kings Oak 0. A great effort by all players. Well done. Asha Mir Year 8 John Cabot Academy vs King’s Oak Academy Score: 5 – 2 WIN Captain: Beth Tanner Player of the Match: Emily Olika A netball match took place on November 3rd at John Cabot against King’s Oak. By half time, JCA had managed to get a lead but it was still very close; 3 – 2. As a team we kept up the hard work and carried on communicating which meant that we were able to move quickly down the court and score 2 more goals in the second half! Thanks to our great defence only one more goal was given to King’s Oak, leaving the score at 5 – 2. A special thank you to Piper, Kosi and Libby in Year 7 for stepping up and filling in our empty positions. Well done to all the girls for playing really well and in particular, Emily, for being chosen as player of the match! A brilliant start to the term, keep up the great work! Beth Tanner Year 9 John Cabot Academy vs King’s Oak Academy Score: LOSS Captain: Italia Gordon Player of the Match: Lucy Hughes We started the match in a thoughtful manner with passing, but the dodging needed to improve as many passes were intercepted with some very tall KO players. The first quarter was moving quick with KO gaining a huge lead. After a quick team talk and a swap of players we started the next quarter which had some great goals from KO, with our defenders working very hard to intercept around the taller girls. In the third quarter team spirits were high as excellent defending from Abigail and Hollie meant that the ball eventually got to Lily who scored a much needed first point for JCA. In the final quarter everyone was working hard but the chances of getting near KO's increasing score was proving hard. With another 3 points scored by Katie and Lily the game was over. Lucy was chosen as girl of the game for her fantastic effort and attacking skills. Even though we did lose the game we still tried our best throughout and had some excellent play. Italia Gordon Year 10 John Cabot Academy vs King’s Oak Academy Score: 23‐5 LOSS Captain: Melissa Harrison Player of the Match: Melissa Harrison As the score well reflects, we did not do greatly in this particular match. However, there are a few things that this score doesn't show. In the first quarter, the score was 5:1 to them. By the second half, it had gone up to 13:3 to them. Although at no point were we winning, our skills and teamwork was not to be criticised. Our first goal was a fantastic goal by Ella Davis that really helped our team’s confidence rise. Considering this team was put together just a few hours before the match, our passes were always quick and fairly accurate and the communication within our team was perfect and helped us make good decisions. King’s Oak’s shooter was outstanding and rarely missed a goal. This made quite the challenge for our defence but we held strong and didn’t give up. Overall, our performance was strong but didn’t quite match theirs. To improve, we should work on our spacing, vary our passes and become more of a solid team. Lauren Tunstall BSSA Swimming Gala – 3 November During the swimming gala, our year did very well. We competed excellently; Alonzo did 50m free, fly and breast, and I did 50m free, fly and back. Our technique was very good. We managed to get a 1st and 2nd in 2 events overall. As a school on a whole, our reaction times off the block were quick, and our relay teams showed great teamwork and effort. The support from our teachers Miss Ogden and Mr Titterington were amazing and helped us achieve the best we could. Hopefully we will see a repeat of today in the final if we qualify! Heather Witcombe
