TERMS AND CONDITIONS
CATEGORIES & PRIZES
•
All entries will be eligible to win the People’s Choice and City of Canning Acquisition Award.
•
Residents will automatically be entered in the City of Canning Resident Award.
•
There will be one winner per category only.
•
The City of Canning Acquisition Award is an acquisitive prize and the winner’s artwork will be
purchased and become part of the City of Canning Art Collection.
•
Winning entries will be announced at the Opening Night with the exception of the People’s
Choice Award, which will be announced on the final day of the exhibition.
•
Artists may submit one entry only.
DELIVERY & PICK UP DETAILS
•
Entrants are to cover all delivery and transport costs.
•
On delivery, artists should take their wrappings away with them (bubble wrap and cardboard
corners etc.) and upon collection of artwork bring items to wrap the artwork with them.
These cannot be stored or supplied by the City of Canning.
•
All artworks are to be clearly labelled on the back of the artwork indicating the Artist’s
Name, Title, Medium, Dimensions, Category and Price.
•
Unsold entries are to be collected from the City Administration Building on Sunday 30 July
2017 between 3pm - 4.30pm, following the closure of the exhibition. Photo ID will be
required.
•
Work not picked up by this time will be held by the Events Coordinator for one week
following the close of the exhibition. Pick up must be arranged by the artist.
SALES & GST
•
All artwork must be for sale with the exception of youth entries
•
(ages 12-17).
•
All sale prices must include a 20% commission fee which assists with the cost of running the
event.
•
Artists who do not have an ABN, please sign the statement on the entry form to avoid tax
being deducted from any payment to be made.
RULES FOR EXHIBITING
•
All works entered must be less than 12 months old from the closing date for entries, not
have previously won an award and must be original. Work that is directly copied from
sources not generated by the artist is not deemed original.
•
D-Ring and cord hanging assembly are mandatory for all hanging works. Please ensure these
are attached professionally.
Works on Paper & Works on Canvas Categories
•
Works must not exceed 1.5m high by 1.5m wide by 900mm deep and weigh more than 5kgs.
•
Works on Canvas must be block mounted.
•
Works on Paper must be framed.
3D Sculpture/Textile Category
•
3D/Sculpture works should not be over 25kgs or in excess of 1.5 cubic metres.
•
All 3D/Sculpture work must be accompanied by a card detailing artist’s name, phone
number, and/or email address, category, title, medium used, dimensions and price.
•
3D works can be placed on plinth or hung; please state on your entry form.
Photography category
•
All photography images must have a photographic origin. Manipulation in a digital program
by the photographer is allowed.
•
Photography on paper must be framed, photography on canvas must be block mounted.
•
Works may be presented on photographic paper, aluminium or canvas.
Short Film Category
•
Film must represent how you Act, Belong or Commit in the Canning area.
•
3 entries will be shortlisted and then played on Opening Night to the public, the winner will
then be announced. You will be contacted two days prior if you have been shortlisted.
•
Works entered into the Short Film Award must be submitted via Dropbox. Once uploaded
please email [email protected] with your full name, age, address, movie title
and brief description of your movie.
•
Format, resolution and aspect ratios are listed on the City website. Please make sure you
comply.
•
Films can be produced by a camera, video camera, smartphone or Go Pro.
•
Only short films (including narrative, documentary, and animation) are eligible. The
maximum duration is 5 minutes including opening title and ending credits.
•
A submission may be disqualified from the corresponding award category (e.g.
postproduction, sound design, visual effects, etc.) should the submission be outsourced to a
company or professional individual for completion or enhancement.
•
Each submission will not contain anything that is libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent,
harassing or threatening or otherwise offensive or objectionable.
GENERAL RULES
•
The City of Canning, while taking good care, will not take responsibility for the damage or
loss of artworks. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide insurance for their works.
•
Entrants must agree that the organisers reserve the right to reproduce entries in print, film
or digital format for promotion, education, and documentation purposes in association with
the City of Canning.
•
If artworks are deemed unsuitable for exhibition as they raise copyright issues, are culturally
insensitive and/or are obscene/ upsetting and not family-friendly, the entry will be
cancelled.
•
Details on the entry forms cannot be altered in any matter once received, and once on
display an artwork cannot be modified in any way by artists or others.
•
Once an artwork has been placed by the curator, it will remain in place for the duration of
the exhibition and cannot be moved or withdrawn.
•
All entries will be judged - judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered
into.
•
External judges will be utilised to judge the awards. These judges will be arts professionals
from recognised West Australian institutions. Judges names will be in the flyleaf of the
catalogue and will be announced in the speeches on Opening Night.
•
Winners will receive a phone call two days prior to Opening Night.
