Please take a minute to read about a little boy named Benin. He is 10 years old and lives in West Africa in a little village called Boma, located in the country of Sierra Leone. In many ways Benin is just like you -- he loves his family, hanging out and playing with his friends, and he finds his younger sister very annoying at times. There are also many ways in which Benin is different. He does not have a bus that picks him up for school. He has to walk several miles and even climb a rope to get to school. His school has only one room for all the students, one teacher and not nearly enough books to go around. He has never seen an IPad. He has never played on a Xbox or a Play Station. There never seems to be enough food in his house. He is usually hungry and is very skinny. His village has only one book, it’s the Chief’s and he does not let Benin borrow it. When children get sick in his village, they sometimes die because they don’t have access to medicine. His good friend, Tambaa, died last year, it makes Benin very sad to think about it. He has many hopes and dreams just like you do. He wants to grow up and be a pilot or a famous soccer player. He is leaning towards famous soccer player. In order to grow up he needs your help to have access to food, clothing, medicine and books. And you can absolutely help him by… washing a car. Yes, that’s right washing a car. AMC is holding its first Car Wash on May 30 (rain date May 31) to help raise money for two philanthropic organizations the IOCC and Heart Doctors. Both of these organizations are focused on helping boys and girls such as Benin around the world. If you are interested in volunteering a little bit of your time please fill out the attached form and email it to [email protected] or drop it off at the Church Office. Warm Regards, Father Dennis and Father Nik
