Coach Job Description
Purpose:
To ensure that his/her assigned athletes are technically prepared for competition and for
the social and cultural experience of participating in the 2014 Arctic Winter Games.
Qualifications and Skills Required:







Knowledge of the values and culture of Arctic Sports/Dene Games.
Ability to work as a Team Leader;
Excellent Communication Skills;
Coaching experience within the Sport;
Additional technical qualifications in the sport of representation are an asset;
C.P.R. and first aid is an asset.
Must be able to travel to the U.S (Passport & not being denied entry into the States)
Responsibilities:
Before Games The Coach Will:










Make every effort to promote a safe, harassment free environment where all team
members are treated with respect so the experience is conducive to maximal
enjoyment for all;
Assist with administrative tasks of the team, including registration, uniform
allocation, finances and transportation;
Be familiar with the roles and responsibilities of mission staff;
Attend all required Team Yukon official functions and ceremonies;
Help with fundraising activities and responsible for ensuring participation from
their sport athletes;
Attend and run trials
Member of the selection board represent Team Yukon at the 2014 AWG;
Develop and implement a athlete training plan that will enable athletes to be
successful at the Games;
Assist in Selecting appropriate competitive uniforms;
Promote and transmit the values and culture of Arctic Sports/Dene Games.
During Games The Coach Will:














Be responsible for the athletes throughout the full duration of the Games and ensure
that all of the athletes are aware of and understand the Team Yukon Conduct and
Discipline Code;
Reside in the assigned accommodation with their athletes throughout the games;
Agree to and sign the Coach/Chaperon/Mission Staff Agreement;
Abide by and enforce Team Yukon's Dress Code;
Coach in a fair and sportsmanlike manner;
The head coach is responsible for administering discipline for minor infractions;
Report all incidents of harassment to mission staff;
Be responsible for competitors preparation, performance and conduct prior to ,
during and after the games;
Assist mission staff and the Host Society with accreditation and accommodation
procedures;
Attend all required Team Yukon official functions and ceremonies
Travel with Team Yukon to and from Games;
Ensure that the athletes assemble on time for all scheduled activities (competitive
and special events).
Respect and promote and transmit the values and culture of Arctic Sports/Dene
Games.
Respect values and traditions of Arctic Sports/Dene Games regarding elders and
officials.
