Before any radiological examination, the Last Menstrual Period (LMP)

Relationship between radiation safety and Last
Menstrual Period (LMP) :
Before any radiological examination, the Last Menstrual
Period (LMP) should be routinely asked, especially in the
reproductive age group to prevent accidental exposure to

If menstrual period is delayed, she should be considered
pregnant until proven otherwise.
Examinations utilizing Ionising radiation
should NOT be performed on pregnant
or suspected to be pregnant patients,
except in emergency and special
circumstances.
Radiological consent is mandatory after
adequate explanation is given to the
patient and husband or next of kin.
