class, cut it into strips, and weave with yarn on a loom.

Calligraphy
Middle School/High School students, 8 per class

Calligraphy is an ancient writing technique using flat
edged pens to create artistic lettering using thick and
thin lines depending on the direction of the stroke.
These bracelets are stylish and funky! You’ll love this
simple technique for making wraps using leather lacing
and beads! Perfect for boys and girls!
Pysanky Egg Dyeing
Paper Marbling
Pysanky is a traditional craft in Ukraine and Poland.
Patterns are drawn on the egg with wax, which then
protects the covered areas from the dye that is applied.
By adding different colors of dye, a multi-colored
pattern is built up. Finally, the wax is removed to
reveal the colors that were covered up at each stage.

Marbling is an ancient printing technique which utilizes
a water bath thickened with carrageenan (seaweed) to
float paint. Using acrylic paint, students will learn this
fun, colorful technique and complete at least six oneof-a-kind prints to take home. Wear old clothes, and
prepare to get messy!

Block Printing with Foam
Let’s Face It – Self-Portraiture
Elementary School students, 10 per class
Saturday, October 15, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Students will be introduced to the basics of relief
printmaking by utilizing simple Styrofoam trays or
plates. An image is carved into a soft foam plate and
rolled with waterbed based ink to create multiple
original prints. The prints can be used for greeting
cards design or be framed for display.

Let your child’s imagination run wild in this fun
puppetry workshop! Students will create a simple
2-string animal marionette using cardboard tubes
and other ordinary household items. The fun
doesn’t stop in class! Students can use their newly
created critters to produce their own puppet show!

Learn about and experiment with fun ways to draw
your own portrait! This workshop will cover the basic
facial anatomy we all have in common and the small
details that make us unique. Students will use line,
composition, texture, and form to draw their own
unique 11” x 14” portrait.

Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often
associated with Japanese culture. The goal is to
transform a flat sheet square of paper into a finished
sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.
