1. What is the Strathclyde Public Engagement Fund?
The Strathclyde Public Engagement Fund is an internal funding allocation provided through the University’s
Researcher Development Programme and managed by the University wide Public Engagement Group to help
promote public engagement activities by University of Strathclyde’s researcher community. The seed fund is
available for both research staff and postgraduate research students.
Proposers can request up to £300 per bid.
2. What can the funding be used for?
The Strathclyde Public Engagement Fund will award funding to cover the cost of travel, consumables and
development of demonstrations/exhibits and public engagement related activities.
3. What types of activities can be funded?
The Public Engagement Group at Strathclyde, will initially seek to fund recent graduates of the ‘Becoming an
Engaging Researcher module1’ in the development of their public engagement activities.
Applications will also be welcomed from those who are taking part in collaborative public engagement activities.
In this case, the Public Engagement Group will accept proposals of larger scale projects which request funding
above the £300 limit based on full justification as detailed in the proposal. Projects which bring funds from other
sources are also encouraged. Please note that funds cannot be used for University staff or student delivery time.
4. How do I apply?
Proposals should be no longer than two sides of A4.

5. How are proposals evaluated?
The Public Engagement Group will review all applications at their monthly meetings. Proposals should consist of
a clear description of the project including:









Clear aims and objectives
Brief background to the research that you intend to engage your audience with
Methodology
A discussion of the target audience and how they will be reached
The people involved in the project and how they will contribute
The projected timescale (start and end date of the project along with a simple work plan)
A brief breakdown of the funding requirements and how the funds will be spent
The proposal should also discuss how the impact of the project will be evaluated

6. What happens following the use of the funds?
The Public Engagement Group requires that you to complete a short case study which demonstrates the outputs
of your public engagement activity for future reporting. Elements of this case study may also be included on the
Public Engagement web pages.
Please see template case study below.
