23 January 2013 AFL players take up the febfast challenge Pavlich, Ball, Murphy and Maric are just a few of the names who have joined febfast, the 28 day alcohol free challenge, to compete in the AFL Players’ Challenge during the month of February. A partnership between the AFL Players’ charity, Ladder, and febfast, the Challenge will see players from every AFL club compete against each other to raise the most money for the campaign. A portion of the money raised by the players will be donated to Ladder and other programs. Ladder will utlise these funds to support their existing work with vulnerable young people and create a new drug and alcohol resource designed to help those at risk of drug and alcohol related issues. febfast encourages people to take a break from alcohol for the month of February and in 2013 aims to raise over $1 million for vulnerable young Australians tackling serious alcohol and drug problems. Launched in 2007, febfast has raised more than $4.5 million to support 40 programs from all corners of Australia and inspired 700,000 drink free days. AFL Players’ President and Ladder ambassador Luke Ball will represent Collingwood in the challenge and said the players are passionate about taking a leadership stance on this issue. “febfast is a great concept and we are all very excited about participating, and raising funds for Ladder,” said Ball. “In previous years there have been quite a few players who have got involved off their own bat, but with this new partnership it has certainly provided an extra incentive for players to throw their support behind the campaign.” “We are naturally competitive beasts so the moment there is a competition element you can be sure that players from each team will be trying their hardest to raise the most money and win some bragging rights while helping a great cause.” The AFL Players’ Challenge has begun and will continue right throughout February.
