During 2016/2017, Rounds One and Two saw seventeen (17) community clubs and
organisations receive financial assistance. Successful applicants were:

Burnie United Football & Sporting Club ($3,478) – to purchase a defibrillator,
refrigerator, 30 training balls and new training nets.

Burnie Musical Society ($4,748) – to install more efficient heating at St Wilfred’s Hall in
Montello.

Youth & Family Community Connections ($5,000) – to upgrade kitchen facilities at
Burnie venue.

Koori Kids ($400) – NAIDOC School Initiatives.

Burnie School for Seniors ($1,153) – to purchase a wireless microphone and receiver, a
lockable storage cupboard and a laser printer.

South Burnie Bowls Club ($15,000) – for Amenities shed.

Make-A-Wish Burnie Branch ($2,697) – to assist with the costs to run the Home and
Garden Show.

Loxley Archers ($3,638) – to purchase a shipping container and enclosed trailer to
transport equipment to community events.

Burnie Sports Centre Committee ($2,600) – to purchase two laptops and eight sets of
badminton nets.

City of Burnie Cycling Club ($3,974) – to purchase four new track bikes and parts for
maintenance.

Burnie Surf Life Saving Club ($6,500) – to purchase a powerful searchlight for rescues.

Cradle Coast Outrigger Canoe Club ($886) – to purchase 20 chairs, 4 tables and TV.

Burnie Arts Council ($2,200) – to develop a website providing global access to arts and
cultural events taking place in Burnie.

Special Children’s Christmas Party ($1,500) – provide 16 spots for disadvantaged
children in Burnie.

Burnie Carols by Candlelight ($4,500) – to assist with costs for sound and lighting.

Burnie Athletic Club ($3,000) – to assist with costs for TV promotion of New Years Eve
event.

Cooee to Camdale Coastcare ($2,117) – to assist with costs for clothing, telephone and
equipment.

Burnie Amateur Swimming Club ($1,666) – to assist with costs at Aquatic Centre for
swimming event.

Australian Red Cross ($864) – to assist with costs at the Waste Management Centre.

Launceston City Mission ($1,000) – to assist with costs at the Waste Management
Centre.

Introduction
The Burnie City Council’s Financial Assistance to Clubs and Organisations Policy is limited to
clubs and organisations either located in Burnie or which have substantial membership from
Burnie residents and which offer benefits to the people of Burnie, (Note: Financial Assistance
may be made to Regional/District organisations for distribution to sub or local branches where
this situation applies) who are able to establish a need for financial assistance.
In addition to the grants program, individuals who are selected to represent Tasmania or
Australia at events like conferences, seminars and sporting championships are eligible to apply
for a $100 contribution toward their expenses. Applications for the State Representatives
program can be made at anytime, please note that it is a requirement by Council that any
requests for sponsorship must complete the ‘Application for Financial Assistance Grants for
Individuals representing Tasmania or Australia in National or International events’ and be
accompanied with a letter from a State/National body advising of your selection.
Important Information
1. The grants program is open to all not-for-profit clubs and organisations that have planned
community projects in the Burnie Municipality to occur during the 2017/2018 financial year.
2. A club or Community organisation may only apply for Financial Assistance every three years
(if initial application was successful).
3. Funding will not be considered for payment of salaries or rent.
4. Assistance is made on a year to year basis and will not be ongoing. Applications must be
made annually.
5. Financial assistance will generally not exceed $7,500.
6. Applications for Financial Assistance in excess of $10,000 and/or or a capital works nature
which are assessed as worthy of further consideration will be either recommended for
budget deliberation or submitted to Council with a recommendation.
7. All applications will be collated and presented for approval at the next Council meeting,
letters will be sent to applicants advising of outcome.

will not be considered.
