Loads of returning talent makes Clay a key player

After another impressive season that
saw Clay capture a Three Rivers Athletic
Conference title and a Division I district
championship, the Eagles are primed to
make another run.
The expectations will always be high at
Clay for a program that has routinely won
league and district titles in recent years.
In her 17th year coaching, Brenda
Radabaugh has seen her teams win 76 percent of their games while accumulating a
356-110 record. She’ll likely reach 500 career victories this year as she holds a career
record of 489-164 dating back to her time at
Central Catholic.
In the Toledo City League, Waite has
just two returning starters, four letter winners, and three seniors.
“We’re basically starting over,” Waite
coach Rocky Granados said. “Luckily
we’ve dug up a few talented players and
also moved up some eager jayvee players
from last year. What we lack in experience
we will make up for with determination.
I’ve got 12 girls I can work with and who
I believe are going to give me everything
they’ve got.
“Once we come together as a team,
we’re going to be able to accomplish some
of our goals.”
Clay
Coach: Brenda Radabaugh, 17th year
Career record: 489-164
Last season: 20-4 (13-1 TRAC)
Key returnees: Bekah Yenrick, 1B/OF, Sr.;
Natalie Quinlan, C, Jr.; Lindsay Roberts, P,
So.; Tori Gallaher, P/2B, So.; Olivia Hornyk,
LF, Sr.; Regan Stager, 3B, Jr
Preview: Despite key losses, Clay will
have plenty of key players returning like
Bekah Yenrick, who has committed to play
collegiately at the University of Toledo,
and Natalie Quinlan, Lindsay Roberts, Tori
Gallaher, Olivia Hornyak and Regan Stager.
One of the players the Eagles will have
to replace is Haley Dominique, the Alan
Miller Jewelers’ All-Press Offensive Player
of the Year, who is currently at Ball State.
She hit a whopping .620 with five home
runs, 32 RBIs, 50 runs and stole 23 bases
and also pitched in relief.

Sattler, a first baseman, hit
.361, belted three home
runs and had 36 RBIs. She
and Dominique, along with
outfielder Kelsi Haurter
graduated, leaving Clay
with a limited but key set
of players to replace.
Yenrick, who will split time between
first base and right field, leads the way,
coming off a season that saw her hit .600 to
go with four home runs and 43 RBIs, tops
in the area. She’ll be expected to play at a
high level, but she’ll have help.
Tori Gallaher, who splits time between
second base and pitcher, earned first team
honors last year playing the infield as she
hit .443 while driving in 23 runs and stealing 13 bases.
Catcher Natalie Quinlan hit .382 last
year and drove in 20 runs,
Third baseman Regan Stager hit .378
and drove in 23 runs, while Gallaher (8-1,
2.31 ERA, 39 IP) and Lindsay Roberts (9-2,
2.47 ERA, 76.2 IP) will start in the circle
with Alyssa Huffman pitching in relief.

As good as the hitting might be, the Eagles
won’t be making another tournament run
without solid pitching, and the experience
in the circle is there.

Coach: Raquel Granados, fifth year
Last season: 3-19 (3-9 TCL)
Key returnees: Marissa Cockerill, Sr., SS;
Kristen Crossno, So., 2B/SS
Preview:
Senior
shortstop
Marissa
Cockerill and sophomore second baseman
Kristen Crossno are the
two returning starters.
Cockerill batted over .500
last season and earned
second team All-City
League honors.
“She will be looking to impose her will again this year, at
the plate and on the bases,” coach Rocky
Granados said. “Kristen was the only freshman to step up and earn a varsity spot last
year. Sophomore Breanna Terman put in
some serious work in the offseason to grow

into her spot as a varsity pitcher.”
Granados added that sophomore pitcher/first baseman Haylee Mitchell looks confident on the mound and will be a key component on offense. Junior Onicia Briones is
a versatile player who will play several positions on defense, according to Granados.
“She also has a strong bat and will be
a major contributor on offense as well,”
the coach said, adding that the Indians
will have to overcome the fact that several
players from last year’s team decided not to
play softball this spring.
