Jackets with hoods may NOT be worn in the building. 3. Jackets and socks should be only blue, burgundy, white, or black. 4. Shirts should be tucked in at all times with a belt. We would like to recognize our 2016-2017 teacher of the year, Mrs. Winpigler and student of the year David Howard. This is Mrs. Winpigler’s third year at Merrydale and she teaches the 1st grade. David Howard is a 5th grader and has attended Merrydale since Kindergarten. Both Mrs. Winpigler and David are true leaders on campus! Congratulations to the both of you! Mardi Gras Ball Fundraiser Please remember to continue filling up your bottles for a chance to be Merrydale’s King or Queen at our Mardi Gras Ball! Each grade level will have a prince and princess as well for the top earners. Bring your bottle each Friday in the month of January to turn in. Our turn in dates have been revised: Friday, January 13; Friday, January 20; Friday, January 27; and Friday, February 3. Proud, Responsible, Inspired learners, Determined to Excel In Pre-K we are experiencing tremendous growth! Students are exploring traditional tales and modern rhymes in reading. In math, we are learning how to compare sets and in science we are making predictions during float and sink experiments. Students are also learning all about different cultures in social studies. The best is yet to come! Please make sure you are gathering your spare change for a chance to be the Pre K prince or princess for our upcoming Mardi Gras Ball our next turn in date is this Friday! -Mrs. Royer (Ms. Batiste) & Ms. Semien (Ms. Patton) Happy New Year! We are looking forward to an exciting and adventurous second semester. The current skills we are working on are consonant blends (cl, dr, fl, gh), high frequency words (a, me, my, to, like, and) and addition. Please review our past high frequency words my, with, you, what, are now, and come, and remember parents, read to your child each night so that they can become strong readers! -Ms. Singleton, Mrs. Ross , & Ms. Guillory First graders cruised through the fall semester and learned new skills. In math, we are currently working on greater than, less than, and equal to. In social studies were are learning about economics and in science we will be exploring the human body. Parents make sure that you are reading with your student each night and signing their SFA homework nightly as well. -Mrs. Winpigler (Mrs. Stewart), Mrs. Young, & Ms. Lavergne Second graders are off to a great start this New Year. We will begin our new rotations for SFA in reading. Science will be fun as we will be learning about animal’s habitat. In math, we are working on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping. We are learning and using a new PBIS behavior plan in our classes so that we can earn lots of Happles for our good behavior. -Ms. Sigler, Mrs. Mckee, & Ms. Knox In third grade, we are diving deeper into our content in all subjects as we begin to prepare for our spring iLEAP. Our scholars are so eager and ready to learn daily. We recently took midterm assessments in all subjects and students have made significant progress from the beginning of the year. Please encourage your scholar to keep up the good work so that we can finish the school year with a “bang”! -Ms. Ollie, Mrs. Brumfield, Ms. Bibbins, Ms. Hogan January begins the start of test preparation. After school tutoring permission slips will be sent home. Also, be on the lookout for field trip permission slips. Thanks for your support as we prepare students for the 5th grade. Don’t forget homework sheets go home every Monday and conduct sheets go home every Thursday. Don’t forget students are collecting spare change so they can have a chance to be crowned royalty for the Mardi Gras ball. Our next turn in date is this Friday, January 13. -Ms. Knighton, Ms. Ciro, & Ms. Provo We would like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Mckinney! She has been doing an AMAZING job as our new reading teacher. Students have just completed our slave trade unit ending with the creation of class murals. Please feel free to come by room 20 to view the student’s hard work. We would also like to thank Ms. Thomas for her hard work as a long term substitute teacher-Mrs. Bray-Range & Ms. McKinney This January we will have TWO PBIS activities in one month! Students who have an A or B on their conduct sheets for the first TWO weeks in January will get to attend a Magic Show on Friday, December 13th, and students who earned an A or B on their conduct sheets for the last two weeks will get to attend the Mobile Zoo on January 27th! Remember: NO TOR or suspension Please continue to turn in your Box Tops with your name on your bag to the office. Make sure you sort through them so that you can throw away any expired Box Tops. Thank you for continuing to support our school. ESS We have been working to increase our vocabulary skills! Our reading groups are super motivated and every day we are becoming better readers. Using our math skills, we are counting our acts of kindness towards our Merrydale family members. Darion was recognized at the December 15th School Board Meeting. Merrydale’s Art Department was also awarded another grant from Donor’s Choose to purchase film equipment to make movies in 2017!
