Play and learn for 2 year olds
From September, St Joseph’s is going to start a 2-year-old
provision, based in our foundation unit. It will operate each
weekday afternoon and we have spaces for up to 8 children.
Childcare for 2 year olds will be free if you meet certain
criteria set by government. For further details please see
Mr Atkinson or Mrs Sedgwick. We have two places still
available to fill. If you know anyone with a 2yr old child,
please pass on this information.

Dear Parents,
Nearly two weeks ago a number of our children in Y4 made
their First Holy Communion at St Mary’s Church. It was a
lovely mass and the children sang and read beautifully.
Congratulations to them all as they continue on their faith
journey. Special thanks to all the catechists in the parish
and everybody at school who helped prepare them for this
important occasion.
I would also like to say how proud I am of our Y6 children.
You will no doubt have seen and read all the articles that
have been bandied around about the Y6 SATs and all the
changes that have been made. Both myself and Mrs
Thompson were extremely proud of their mature attitude
towards the tests and they all tried their very best.
You may have heard that this week we have some special
visitors in school, our chick eggs have arrived and we are all
excited to watch them hatch. Parents are invited into the
school hall on either Monday 23 rd or Tuesday 24th from
3.30-4.00pm to meet our visitors. This is linked to our
science and creative curriculum. Every class in school will
be linking their visit to work in class, in order to fuel the
children’s imaginations.

Gangster Granny
On Wednesday 25th May KS2 are going to see
Gangster Granny at Darlington Civic Theatre.
The children can take a small bag of sweets
and a drink (not fizzy) with them. No money
should be taken.
Children must arrive at
school on time as the coach leaves at 9.15am
and we will need to do registration first.
Y2 ‘Play in a day’
Year 2 will be learning a 'play in a day' on
Wednesday 15th June. They will spend the
day working with actors to learn and perform
a script. Parents are invited to join the whole
school at 3pm to see the performance.
To remember
 As the weather is improving, children will have PE outdoors. Please send in a pair of trainers for
them to keep in school.
 PE kits should be sent in to school on a Monday morning and kept in school all week.
 Would you make sure each item of clothing has your child’s name on it. The ‘lost property’ box is
overflowing, please come in and look for any missing item!
Can you help?
My name is Abbie Johnson and I'm in Class 4. On
the 28th May I am getting 12 inches cut off my
hair and I'm donating it to help make wigs for
children who have lost their hair through cancer.
These wigs cost a lot to make so I am trying to
raise as much money as possible to help.
If you would like to support me you can at
www.justgiving.com/Abbie-Johnson10
or text ABJO55 followed by the amount to 70070.
Thank you.
Counsellor
St Joseph’s has a School Counsellor. If any
parent feels their child will benefit from this
service please contact Miss Walker or Mr
Atkinson confidentially.
Learning Behaviours
At St Joseph’s we are developing children’s
ability to discuss their learning and helping them
develop a language to talk about their own
learning. The children in school today are going
to be facing huge challenges in the wider world
and we are working with them to develop skills
and attitudes that will help them be successful
in the wider world. At St Josephs’ we are:
Resilient
Respectful
Reflective
To find out more about these three learning
behaviours please visit the school website.

Lexia
The children recently brought home
a
letter
about
Lexia
and
a
password. It would be really good if
the children could access it and log
on at home and spend some time on
it. They need to spend 20 minutes
on it for it to register and they
have good fun using it! It is suitable
for all abilities.

School Uniform
We now have the facility to order all school uniform
online. This means you will pay significantly less for
your school uniform and the delivery times are much
quicker than we have at the school.
The address is studentuniform.co.uk/sjps130
This is the same company we use at school, Emblematic;
the logo is slightly different as we are no longer
federated with St. Marys. We have a few items in
stock but do encourage parents to use the website as
much as possible to get the full benefits.
If you have any problems or questions with this please
call in to the school office or call the school and Mrs
Henderson will guide you through the process.
