Positive Parenting
Nina Taylor - 6 week course
This is a skills based course which enables parents to build confidence and self
esteem and learn positive parenting.
The course consists of six areas:
l Your child’s emotional needs
l Development and expectations
l Setting boundaries and discipline l Active listening and message
l Encouragement and play
l Respectful communication

Family Outreach Support
What is family outreach support?
Family outreach work is tailored to meet the needs of each individual families
circumstances and needs offering, support and guidance to families when
they most need it.
Family life brings joy to many, but it can also present challenges and
difficulties. Not everyone has someone they can ask for support when they
are experiencing difficult times but the family outreach support team are
there to help at these times.
How to access the Family Outreach Support Service?
Families can refer themselves for support by telephoning or calling in to the
Children’s Centre. A referral can also be made with families’ knowledge by
the Health Visitor, Midwife or other agency.
What can you expect from the
Family Outreach Support Service?
A Children’s centre support worker would be matched with you and they
would visit you at home at an agreed time each week and a family plan
developed to address any issues you need support with.
Services and support tailored
to your family’s needs –
Practical and emotional support – advice on a wide range of issues including
housing advice, welfare rights, routines, boundaries and behaviour. Explore
options for employment, training, adult education and childcare issues.
Provide fun and interesting play ideas for families, to help with their
children’s development.
At any time you are welcome to access any of the groups and training courses
offered at the Children’s Centre. The What’s On guide will tell you what’s on offer.
Counselling
Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk
through things that may be concerning you.
Counselling can help you make sense of your concerns and give you support
through a difficult period in your life.
This service is completely FREE and available to all who are over 16 years old
and have children aged 0-5 years.
Counselling is based on trust and confidentiality. Our counsellor will listen and
help, they will not diagnose, give treatment or advice.
The visit should be relaxed for both you and your family with clear aims for
the work to be carried out.
What is expected from you?

You will be encouraged to work in partnership with us.

You will be in at arranged times.
This course has been researched and developed by Caroline Webster Stratton.
When does Family Outreach stop?
If you no longer want it or you and your support worker feel that your family
needs have been met.
The course consists of five areas:

l Praise
l Ignoring
l Time Out
l Effective limit setting
