Milton Youth Soccer “Playing Up” Policy

Milton Youth Soccer Club “Playing Up” Policy
Milton Youth Soccer encourages players to play only within their
age group, and discourages playing in the next higher age group.
Higher-caliber players playing within their age group have the
opportunity to “shine” relative to their peers while benefiting
from the constraints imposed on the game for players their age,
for example the maximum number of players allowed on the field
during games, and the psychological effects of playing with and
against players who are the same age.
When tryouts for a particular age group are scheduled, those
players registered in Milton Youth Soccer who are too young for
the age group but not by more than six months are notified via
email of this playing-up policy.
A player too young for a particular age group but not by more
than six months can be considered for placement on a team in the
age group by notifying the Competitive Coordinator via email and
attending the tryout for the age group.
Players may not be offered a spot on a team in the next higher
age group due to a variety of factors. As such, no explanation
will be given if a player is not offered a spot on the team in
the next higher age group, even if they had notified the
Competitive Coordinator and attended the tryout for the higher
age group. The player’s participation within the correct age
group will not be affected.
