LYMPSTONE TENNIS CLUB – SPRING NEWSLETTER 2011

LYMPSTONE TENNIS CLUB – SPRING NEWSLETTER 2011
Spring has now officially arrived and our thoughts can turn again to summer tennis
(some members of course play right through the seasons). We hope members will enjoy
the Club’s facilities and activities over the coming months.
Our recent AGM
was a chance to celebrate the success of some of our league
teams; the girls U13 and U16 teams both won their divisions, as did the Men’s A and
Men’s B teams, resulting in an impressive haul of silverware for the Club.
Representatives of the junior teams were presented with their shields at the AGM.
After over 20 years of service on the committee, Suki Commin has moved on and she
was presented with a plant for the garden as a thank you for all her efforts. The rest
of the committee remains unaltered and we are joined by new member Liz Griffiths.
Junior coaching
will start on Saturday 9 April at 9.30 am, when our junior coach,
James Isaacs, will do his best to sort all juniors into the appropriate groups for the
summer coaching programme. Members who wish to sign up in advance of this date may
do so, using the membership renewal form, which our Treasurer will be sending out.
Places for the coaching have to be limited for everyone’s safety and will be allocated on
a first come first served basis.
Senior coaching:
Our senior coach, Jon Duplock will be running coaching courses
over the summer and will be holding an open evening on Thursday 7 April from 6.30 pm
to 8.30 pm. This is an opportunity for new and renewing members to come along and
sign up and ensure you are put in the appropriate group. The cost for a 5 week course
of 90 minute lessons (the open evening is free) will be £30. Non-members may come
along but will be required to become members in order to take advantage of the
coaching. This is to comply with insurance requirements. If you can’t come along on 7
April, you can book in advance by contacting Jill on 224774. Numbers will be restricted
for maximum benefit to everyone, but each group must have a minimum of 6 to run.
League matches
start at the end of April and a list of all the dates when home
matches are taking place will be available on the website shortly and on the notice
board overlooking the car park. In addition, you will find a monthly calendar with court
bookings displayed in the window of the committee room.
Membership renewals
are due on 1 April and your prompt payment would be
appreciated by our Treasurer. We will be able to accept payment by Bank transfer this
year, which will hopefully reduce the number of trips Andrew has to make to the Bank!
