Mission Statement
The Club has been established to play cricket, squash and football. It is our continuous
aim to provide the best facilities and social environment for these sports to flourish in
the community. This aim will be fulfilled by the management and administration of
the Club being efficient and effective and accountable to our members.
Aims
To increase participation in cricket in Hythe and the rural areas of Romney Marsh,
particularly among children and young people.
To support and encourage player development, offering appropriate coaching and
competitive opportunities to all players.
To retain more cricketers in the game for longer – with focus on 14-18 year olds and
5-8 year olds through All Stars cricket events.
To develop and strengthen the senior playing teams, supporting senior players to be
positive role models for all club members.
To support and promote the education and development of coaches and officials.
To develop the club volunteer program, increasing volunteer recruitment, and
promoting the V Cricket junior volunteers initiative.
To increase community awareness and use of the club facilities.
To provide safe, sustainable and well maintained all weather cricket net facilities.
To improve the sustainability of club playing surfaces by upgrading pitch quality and
maintenance equipment.
To work in partnership with Kent Community Cricket and the Shepway Sports Trust.
To aim for best practice in all areas of club, team and junior program management.
Club Background
Hythe Cricket Club serves the coastal town of Hythe (population 14,500), and the
surrounding rural areas of Shepway, including Romney Marsh. Established in 1856,
the club junior programme began in 1980. The Club achieved ECB Clubmark Status in
2010, and has been successfully reaccredited ever since.
The Club has 4 senior teams, and U11, U13 and U15 teams competing in league
competitions, and U9 team participating in tournament cricket.
During the season the club runs twice weekly coaching sessions for juniors (Fridays
and Sundays), and weekly nets training sessions for senior players. There is an
annual Cricket Week, and Colts Day in August.
The Club hosts 2 overseas players each season, who support the junior coaching
program as well as the senior teams.
The Club has good contact with local schools (particularly Lympne, Hythe Bay
Community, Palmarsh and Seabrook Primary schools, and The Harvey and Brockhill
Secondary schools). The Club hosts schools Kwik Cricket Tournaments annually, and
has been consistently involved in Saxon Shore League and Shepway Sports
Development planning.
The Club has a thriving social club, with bar and dining facilities available for hire.
Regular summer boot fairs and a regularly updated website, have increased
community awareness of the Club and its facilities.

2017 – 19 Projects
Project 1 – The Volunteer Program
Recruit, register and train enough volunteer coaching staff to support the expansion
of the junior cricket program and deaf children’s cricket program. In 2017, support 2
junior coaches to achieve Level 2 qualifications and 2 senior coaches to achieve Level
2 qualification.
Develop clear role descriptions for volunteer team managers, ‘responsible adults’
supporting junior teams, fundraisers and caterers, and recruit and register volunteers
to fill these roles.
Promote volunteering through Cricket Week and Colts Day.
Run a volunteer recognition event before the end of the season.
Seek funding to support volunteer recruitment and training, provision of information
packs, and recognition events.

Project 2 – All Stars Cricket

Project 3 – Improvement to playing surface
To secure funding, to enable KORO pitch renovation work to be undertaken in
September 2017 across whole playing surface in line with ECB PQS minimum
standard.

Project 4 – Expansion of the HCSC Website
Further develop the website, to promote the club in the community, facilitate
communication with players, parents and schools, and provide user friendly access to
club committee paperwork and safeguarding policies and procedures.

Project 5 – Upgrade of grounds and equipment
Work in partnership with Natwest Workforce and Jewsons to secure funding for
maintenance of changing rooms, outfield and sightscreens. Assess ongoing
maintenance requirements for whole playing area and maintenance and
replacement schedule for grounds – keeping equipment to inform future funding
needs.
