Social story about compromising and playing

Playing With Friends
A story about Playing with Friends
My name is ________
I am _______ years old.
I go to ______________________school.
I am in first grade and have friends at school.
Some of my friends in school are
_____________________________________
Sometimes my friends like to play my favorite games.
Sometimes my friends want to play their favorite
games. That’s okay.
This is because we all like to do different things.
It’s okay to play alone.
Sometimes we go outside to play at school.
When we are on the playground my friends may decide
to slide on the slide.
I may decide to play on the swings or maybe do
something else.
If I want to be with a friend, I can suggest to a friend
that we do something together. I might say, “Let’s
swing on the swings together!”
Sometimes my friend may want to do something else
instead, like go on the slide. That’s okay too.
If I still want to be with my friend, I may suggest that
we take turns going down the slide and swinging on the
swings. This is called compromising. This is a good thing
because we can both get to do the things we like to do
together!
Compromising is a good friendship skill. Friends often
like to share and be kind to each other.
My friend may still not want to swing on the swings.
Then I have to decide if I want to be with my friend or
swing on the swings. It’s okay if we decide to do
something different. He can still be my friend.
Making and keeping friends makes me happy.
