Do you specific concerns about the wellness policy and your school? If so, please
explain.
“Students at our school have to choose between P.E., and band or choir. We have 7th grade students just
coming out of grade school who REALLY need that physical outlet. Forcing them to choose between P.E.
and band or choir is NOT following our District wide Wellness Policy.”
“I’m going to read the policy now.”
“Mandating Health separate from PE can cause scheduling challenges in times of budget crisis, Number
of minutes for PE should be recommended goals”
“Students do not get enough exercise during the day at Schoenbar. Student attention spans decrease
significantly in the afternoons.”
“I think it goes too far.”
“Not enough time for lunches, not enough physical activity, students cannot take band/choir and PE in
7th grade which is unacceptable.”
“The free part of lunch period, after eating, is spent inside. Most days students are not allowed outside.”

Do you have any suggestions for ideas for improving the District Wellness Program
at either the district or school level?
“Speak with our Administration at our school about the importance of ALL 7th grade students being able
to participate in P.E., and not have to choose between P.E. and band or choir.”
“I am thankful we have a Wellness Program.”
“Don’t stop requiring the 30 minutes of scheduled activity. It’s too easy to say-we don’t have time for
this, lets use it for academics. Kids need a physical outlet. SpEd kids especially. Don’t choose between
support for academics/band/choir AND PE. Schedule so kids can have both.”
