General Guidelines:
1. Participants must have been enrolled 4-H'ers for at least 3 months prior to show.

4. Each act should last no longer than 5 minutes. Acts that go over this time limit will be disqualified.
5. Use only quality CDs for any required background music.
6. If an act has children in multiple age divisions, the age is determined by the oldest member of the group.
7. Participants should consider the following when selecting and presenting a talent act:
 Audience appeal, projection and poise
 Respectful and appropriate dress, humor, dance styles, gestures, lyrics and costumes
 Staging-position and/or movement on stage (The stage is small.)
 Skills in area of presentation (talent)
8. No animal acts, use of fire, hazardous materials, excessive set-up time or special lighting effects allowed.

Day on May 16, 2015 at Glenn Marlow Elementary School. In addition, one Cecil and Leonard act can advance to
the District 4-H Showcase. See attached sheet for information about the Cecil and Leonard competition.

Cecil and Leonard 4-H Talent Competition
There is a new competition at 4-H Talent Shows in North Carolina. Ray Wilkinson was a long time agricultural
news anchor and reporter for the Capitol Broadcasting Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was
responsible for covering farm news and all things agricultural. Wilkinson will probably best be known for his
Cecil and Leonard jokes that he told on air. The jokes were centered on the lives and happenings of Cecil and
Leonard, two fictional country friends who supposedly lived in eastern North Carolina.
In addition to two 4-H talent acts, Henderson County 4-H will be able to send one 4-H’er to compete in the
Cecil and Leonard Showcase of Talent at West District 4-H Activity Day on May 16 at Glenn Marlow
Elementary School. One winner will be chosen per district to compete in the Cecil and Leonard Category
during 4-H Congress in July. The winner will receive a scholarship to Congress to include registration, travel
and lodging, up to $500. Judges in the Cecil and Leonard State final will award Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes.
The winner will be featured on WRAL TV, and represent 4-H throughout the year. A Travel stipend will be
awarded for this. Please note that all awards are contingent upon funding.
4-H'ers must use materials from the original Cecil & Leonard. They must perform the same stories as Ray
Wilkinson did. 4-H youth can choose any of his materials. Acts should be from 3 – 5 minutes long. Go to the
official Cecil and Leonard website to learn more about Ray Wilkinson and hear his stories:

Transcripts of the Best of Cecil and Leonard can be found at:

This is an individual talent, NOT a team act - it is designed for one 4-H'er. Please write "Cecil and Leonard" as
the title of the act on the 4-H Entertains entry form if you plan on competing in the talent show in this category.
Individuals can participate in both the Cecil and Leonard Competition and the 4-H Presentation Competition.
