PMIEF Digital Badging FAQ What are the benefits of the digital badge? Project Management is a marketable skill for students applying to college or entering the workforce. Digital badges provide evidence of proficiency, rather than just classroom hours, and are easily shared with interested parties through job sites, social media, and other websites using the digital backpack. Because the badge includes embedded information, including the issuer and criteria for earning it, it is easily verified and provides its own context when shared. Learn more about digital badges and the Mozilla Open Badge standards at http://openbadges.org/about/. How do students earn the badge? After learning and using project management skills in the classroom, as part of a competition team, or in another organized setting, students take the badging exam, hosted on the NOCTI platform. Students who pass the 50 question exam with a score of 75% or higher will receive the digital badge, which will be delivered by email once test scores have been verified. Who is eligible to earn the badge? The intended audience for the badge is students in grades 7-12 who have received project management instruction in the classroom, as part of a competition team, or in another organized youth program. Students must have a sponsoring organization (such as a school) who can provide a proctored exam setting. Who is NOCTI and How Are They Involved with PMIEF’s Badging Program? NOCTI is the largest provider of industry-based credentials and partner industry certifications for career and technical education (CTE) programs across the nation. While the exam administration will be handled through the NOCTI platform, PMIEF is the issuer of the digital badge. For more information about NOCTI, visit http://www.nocti.org/. Is badging available to students outside of the United States? The NOCTI platform is available globally, so badging is open to students anywhere. Please note that the exam is only available in English at this time. How do students access the badging exam? Schools or youth organizations will complete a no-cost registration with NOCTI; PMIEF will facilitate the connection. Once registered with NOCTI, the organization will receive test codes to access the badging exam. Please note that the school or other sponsoring organization is responsible for providing a proctored testing environment. How can I prepare my students for success on the badging exam? NOCTI has prepared a blueprint for the exam, which is available at http://nocti.org/CertificateProgram-PMIEF.cfm. Students who are familiar with the materials covered in PMIEF’s Project Management Skills for Life® (available in the Learning Resources Library at www.pmief.org) will have a good foundation in preparing for the exam. Please note that, since this badge is documenting Project Management knowledge, students will need to be comfortable with standard PMI terminology, such as that used in Skills for Life®. When will the badging exam be available? The badging assessment will be available on the NOCTI portal on 1 November 2016. This sounds great! How do I get started?
