Clean Team Guidelines and Agreement

Join the PalmettoPride Clean Teams We are looking for a few thousand good Samaritans to help us create a new social norm that “littering is not okay”. PalmettoPride was created to engage PEOPLE to take responsibility for their communities and eradicate litter. We’ve created PalmettoPride Clean Teams to give citizens a simple framework to facilitate their participation. We need YOU to engage neighbors, family and friends to adopt a special area to monitor and clean up regularly. Clean Teams encompasses Adopt-‐A-‐Highway, other state and local initiatives, streams and waterways, and any other area you would like to “adopt”. (* We will defer to all locally coordinated “adoption” programs where applicable, such as: Adopt-‐A-‐Beach, local *Keep America Beautiful Adopt-‐A-‐Spot programs, Riverkeeper and Covekeeper programs, etc.) We can help identify the right program for your team and provide guidelines and supplies. Clean Team Available Areas: Adopt-‐A-‐Highway Neighborhoods Parks Streams and waterways Trails Illegal Signage What is required of Clean Team? - 4 litter pickups a year - Report your clean up results - Monitor your area for illegal dumpsites, graffiti and vandalism. You can report illegal dumpsites on our Trash Tracker app or website. While we only require 4 litter pickups a year, we encourage your Clean Team to pick up litter when you see it. You may want to recycle your collected trash. Anything and everything is appreciated! Perks of being a Clean Team: Unfortunately, we cannot provide signage but your team will be listed on our website. We will also announce your team on social media when you join and when we hear from you about your cleanups. Clean Teams will receive the following*: - T-‐shirts for volunteers - Orange safety vests - Gloves - Green trash bags or special mesh bags for Clean Team Streams -
Grabbers for waterway cleanups *Volunteers needing grabbers can make a special request on a need-‐basis. Disposal of trash:
If you have adopted a highway as your Clean Team area, you can adhere to the rules and regulations in the agreement. Bags will be picked up by SCDOT at your scheduled quarterly cleanups. For all other Clean Team areas, you will be responsible for disposal of your bags at the appropriate locations: your personal trash containers, municipal or county convenience centers, recycling bins, MRFS, etc. No illegal dumping of collected trash please. Team Captains: Are you a person who makes things happen? Do you like to be in charge? Or do you know someone who can engage and lead others to the end of the rainbow? Your Clean Team needs a good captain and/or co-‐captains. Clean Team Captains will be advocates for change: creating a new social norm and fostering an environmentally responsible community. As a Team Captain your primary role will be to will find volunteers to help you care for your Clean Team area. PalmettoPride can provide guidelines, supplies and other cool litter-‐related facts, tips and giveaways to help you. As Team Captain, you will set the times for the cleanups, make sure the reports are in, review the safety guidelines with your group, receive and store the supplies. Clean Team Streams Clean Team Streams is designed for all waterway cleanups: coastlines, waterfronts, brooks, creeks, rivers, lakes…. Any special water area that you want to adopt. We encourage safe cleanups, so no deep water areas please. Our Clean Team Streams groups receive orange safety vests, grabbers and special mesh bags that can stay in the water while you are on your personal watercraft. The special designed bags allow for water to flow through the mesh while the trash stays in the bag. These bags are meant to be re-‐used if possible. CLEAN TEAM AGREEMENT
