Selection Policy - Nottingham Players Hockey Club

Selection Policy
Selection for teams will be made on the basis of ability and to improve the overall
playing level of the club.
Priority will be given to all players after the 31st October who have paid their annual subs
in full (Plus any player the Treasurer has agreed a payment plan with) – The contact
sheet on Dropbox should show who has paid or not.
Priority should be given to players who come training and have good availability to play
matches on Saturday (Exceptions would be work commitments and health issues either
personal or close family).
Movement within teams must become an accepted part of selection and players should
not expect to be guaranteed a place in a particular team (Subject to complying with
league rules and the ability to transport players to away matches) – Captains must not
hold on to a player because it will weaken their team.
If a player is selected for a lower team then the captain dropping that player must
explain the reason why - This is not necessary if the player has been told before they
were being temporarily promoted or that they may yoyo between teams - Players may
also temporarily move between teams due to not being available due to work
commitments or timing problems – In addition any player dropped to a lower team must
start the match.
Captains must also give careful consideration to dropping a player who has been
banned from playing either by the club or more importantly the league but should not do
this simply to avoid dealing with a player that needs extra care captaining.
New players should be selected for a team that will match their previous playing
experience.
In order to support the development of the club over a longer period the lowest ladies
and / or mens team captains should play any juniors ready to play adult hockey in
consultation with the Juniors Head Coach – Other captains must consider giving under
18s a longer settling in period with a team and to promote them when ready for the next
team.
If players are available then the lowest ladies and / or mens team must select 16 players
for a match – If there are more then 16 available the captain or captains of these teams
should ask the higher teams’ captain(s) if they can take more players – If there are
players who do not get a match they must be played next week and put on a rotation
basis if necessary.

All initial team selections and subsequent updates must be completed on Dropbox
ASAP - It is the responsibility of the higher team captain to inform the immediate lower
captain that they have made their initial selection. Dropbox must also be backdated so
you’re selection for all previous matches are correct.
All amendments to the contact sheet relating to anything other than the selection of
players can be made by a team captain – Eg If a new player needs to be created.
As there are no selection committees then it is up to the captains to talk to each other
especially to the immediate higher or lower one to ensure players are selected on the
basis of ability.
