Excel Information

Computer Instruction for using EXCEL.
Excel has the ability to do statistical analysis and more. But this option has to get activated first. To
do that click on tools, and choose Add-Ins.
Check the two tools shown below, and then click OK to continue:
You should see the data analysis option when you click on TOOLS now. This option will remain active
until you de-activated.
Enter data for graphing or analysis: Click on TOOLS, Data Analysis: From the menu opened choose
Descriptive Analysis. Click OK to continue
Select Data in column A and B, if you selected the label as well as the data, make sure to check Label in
First row on the Menu. At this problem do not select row 1. Click OK after selection.
EXCEL will display the results. In most cases you may have to widen the column in order to see
everything.
From the result shown, you can get information about the data, such as mean and standard deviation.
Always label the information found, it will help for future reference.
Do it again this time for column C and D.
To graph data Click on Chart Wizard, (Paste Wizard)
Click OK to continue.
From menu opened Choose XY (scatter), then
Select Data for Data range by clicking RED box in the corner of the area provided, you have to click on the
same box again to get your back
Select the data by clicking on the first cell, hold your mouse and drag over the remaing data until you
selected all the data needed.
Click NEXT to continue
Here is a good area that you can use to enter Information such as Title and labels for X and y axis. You
can get to this section again if you forgot, or decide to change your options
Remove Legend, specially if you are displaying one set of data. Click Next to continue.
Name you Chart here. This will help to keep your data and graph on different location.
Here is your graph. Now lets get it cleaned. Presentation is EVERYTHING.
On the graph area, right click with your mouse. You will get many different options, which you can use to
change or update information. Choose Format Plot Area at this time.
Choose None for area, you may use different Color or patterns as well here. Click OK to Continue
Click on the GRID on the graph, then Right click over it and choose Format Gridlines.
Use dash line for gridlies and different color for Color.
You can also Change fonts for test displayed, change Title and more.
To draw the regression line for this data. Click on the Data points, make sure they are highlighted and then
right click over it and choose ADD Trendline from the menu.
From the menu opened Under Option Tab select Display equation and R-Squared. Click OK to continue.
Resize the information displayed for better viewing.
Graphing Histogram
At this time we are going to use bar chart for displaying graph, but your computer can do this work as well.
Choose Chart wizared, Choose Column, then Click NEXT to continue.
Select your data.
Click NEXT to continue.
Decide about the titles.
Under Data Label Tab, you have a choice to show the values for each columns. Click Next to continue.
Name your chart. Click Finish when done.
View the chart.
Clean up the graph. Click on the bar chart, and then right click over it. Choose Format Data Series.
Choose the Option tab and change the Gap Width to Zero. You have to do this for Histogram. There are
continues graph, no GAP.
Clean up is everything.
Time Plot.
Choose Chart Wizard, then choose Line, click NEXT to continue
Select the data representing the Year and Click on FORMAT, CELL from Tool Bar.
Under Number, choose TEXT. Click OK to continue.
Select data for Chart Wizard. Only choose the column for Percent of students. Click on Custom Types
tab.
For Category (X) axis Label select the colum for Years.
Click Next to continue.
Add options that you want and name your chart in the end.
Pie Chart
Chart Wizard, Choose Pie Chart from the list
Select the data, Under Data Label Tab, choose Show label and Percent. Click next, name your chart.
View the Chart.
We are going to use the same data but this time we will choose Column.
Place labels for each Columns.
Because we are graphing Percent, it is wise but not mandetory to show the axis from 0 to 100. Right click
on the y-axis. Choose Format Axis. Under Scale type 100 for Maximum. Click OK when done.
Clean up your graph. Note that we do not attach the columns together for Categorical data.
