BASEBALL’S HIGHEST HONOR WHARTON, NJ (April 27, 2007) – Iden Nazario (1B/LHP/OF from Miami Southridge High School) and Danny Rams (C/1B/OF from Gulliver Prep in Coral Gables) were officially selected today to play in the 2007 All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation. Nazario is one of the top two-way prospects in the nation according to many of America’s top baseball scouts. Rams is the number 36th overall player in the country according to Baseball America and the second ranked player in South Florida. Nazario and Rams are the final two prep baseball players from Florida that will play in this year’s All-American Baseball Game. Played annually at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation highlights the nation’s most anticipated prep baseball prospects, many of which will be selected in the first three rounds of the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. The game will be played on Monday, June 4, 2007. Nazario, who is verbally committed to play at Miami next year, is an intimidating left-handed pitcher who is just as solid in the field as his is on the mound. “Iden Nazario has the versatility to become a big time prospect for virtually any major league ball club,” said Chris Dombrowski, director of the All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation. “He is a young man of strong character and tremendous upside. It will be exciting to watch his career progress.” Rams is a highly anticipated prep that is expected to taken early in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft. A solid catcher and more than capable first basemen, he also is committed to play at the University of Miami next year. “We are excited to see this fine young man representing his school and community as a Baseball All-American,” said John Schmid, Player Personnel director for the All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation. “Our goal is to provide the country’s future baseball generations with a national platform to showcase their athletic excellence. The All-American Baseball Game and PlayStation recognize the value of individual talents contributing to the achievement of team goals and Danny’’s talents will make him a strong addition to this game. It will be exciting to see where he lands on draft day.” Both athletes will arrive in Albuquerque on June 2nd to take part in a variety of events designed to celebrate his achievements as a high school student athlete. During the All-American weekend, athletes will take part in a ‘skills day’ which includes a homerun derby, fastest to first contest, and a variety of other competitions. On the eve of the game, the All-Americans will attend the All-American Baseball Game Awards Banquet where the PlayStation National Player of the Year Award will be given out to America’s most outstanding high school baseball player. Earlier this week, the All-American Baseball Game Selection Tour announced Glen Johnson (South Fork High School), Craig Gullickson (Cardinal Newman), and Daniel Matra and Anthony Rizzo (Douglas High School) to represent Florida at the 2007 All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation. The All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation has produced four unforgettable contests that have featured numerous MLB 1 st round draft picks. All-American Baseball Game Alumni are represented in many of Major League Baseball’s organizations as well as in college baseball’s top programs. The AllAmerican Baseball Game has already seen the top picks play for teams such as the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle Mariners. Among the game’s alumni are several first round MLB draft choices, including Lastings Milledge (OF) of the New York Mets, Blake DeWitt (SS) of the Los Angles Dodgers, and Eric Duncan (1B) and CJ Henry (OF) of the New York Yankees. In 2004, alumnus Mike Rozier (P) signed with the Boston Red Sox, earning him the 2nd highest signing bonus in club history. 2003 alumnus, Andrew Miller (P), went on to become Baseball America's College Player of the Year at the University of North Carolina and was drafted 6th overall by Detroit Tigers in 2006 draft.
