Cougar Winter Break Internship 2008 – Outstanding Interns from City University Background Information Cougar Winter Break Internship 2008 was a challenging and intensive 100-hours career readiness program intended for work-motivated university students under the current financial tsunami situation. Riding on the success of its predecessor in winter break of 2007, the 2008 Internship drew almost 350 applicants from various leading local and overseas universities from which around half were confirmed. Interns learned, worked and competed under the 3-components internship: 1. Orientation and training - 20% time (including an interns-only CEOs session) 2. Business project – 75% time (interns grouped in teams of 5 on their choice of subject from a list of 21 topics and competed for cash awards in 1 of 4 categories) 3. Cougar Career Forum, Spring 2009 – 5% time (interns organized an open forum held at Jockey Club Auditorium, PolyU on Feb 7, Saturday morning to listen to career advice from CEOs) From CityU, 23 students completed the internship including 19 from BBA programme of which 9 of them were among competition awardees. 11 Interns from City University, School of Business with Outstanding Achievement Lery Yu (Final Year Accountancy) and Janice Cho (Year 2 China Business Studies) belonging to team winning the overall Grand Award and the Best Team Award, Marketing Category. Project: Cougar China Development Plan Theo Lau (Year 3 China Business Studies) belonging to team winning the Best Team Award, Finance Category. Project: Financial Tsunami: Impact and Implications to Banking Industry Evelyn Chong (Year 2 Managerial Statistics) belonging to team winning the Best Team Award, Social Category. Project: Financial Tsunami: Impact and Implications to Tourism Industry in HK. Barry Yu (IS), Ho Tak Kui (IS), Tony Kwok (Finance), Lui Tak Wing (HRM) and Conrad Or (IS) (Year 3) belonging to team winning the1st Runner-up Award, Enterpreneurship Category. Project: Financial Tsunami: Impact and Implications to Selected Fast Food Chain in China. Philip Chau (Year 1 Global Business) and Summer Li DanDan (Year 1 Finance) belonging to the only non-competition team as members to the Enrollment Sub-team, Organizing Committee to Cougar Career Forum, Spring 2009. In only 28 days, the team drew some 400 participants on Saturday morning (Feb 7) at Jockey Club Auditorium, PolyU to listen to career advice from CEOs!
