Understanding the Message Catalog
PeopleSoft comes with a message catalog utility that is user configurable
to allow for uniform messages throughout the system. The catalog is
organized by set numbers from 0 to 99,999.
The messages can be accessed for:

Errors and warnings used in processing code.

Static Text on Pages

Button Labels on Pages

Search Page Links

Instructional text a component
To access the message catalog:
1. Select PeopleTools, Utilities, Administration, Message Catalog
2. Enter the Set Number
PeopleSoft reserves the message set numbers from 0 to 20,000.
While you can add or edit a message set less than 20,000 it is not
recommended since it may be overwritten during an upgrade.

Severity determines how
message appears and how the
component responds after user
acknowledgement
Cancel – Most critical and rare.
The process must be aborted or
the machine must be shutdown.
Error – Processing stopped, data
not saved until error corrected.
Warning – User can stop or
continue processing.
Message – Informational,
processes normally.

PeopleCode Messages
The message catalog can be accessed within PeopleCode to display error
messages.
Message Set Message Number
MsgGet(Set,Number) will obtain the message from the catalog.
