Dear Chapter Presidents:
As another year has come to a close and a new year is beginning, I would like to THANK YOU for ALL you

Society and I appreciate you very much.
I hope your holiday was joyous, filled with many blessings, and restful!
As 2008 begins, we have many important events that will be taking place and much information to pass on to
you and your chapter. Please share this information with your chapter and move forward in a timely matter with
all action required.
Executive Board Vote Needed:
Your first enclosure with this mailing is a ballot with two items. Voting members of the Executive Board
include chapter presidents, elected state officers, and past state presidents. Please read the ballot carefully, either
approve or disapprove each, and return your ballot to me no later than January 15, 2008. Thank you.
State Executive Secretary/Treasurer-in Training Positions Open:

at the end of this biennium Dr. Jensi Souders will have completed her two-year contract and the position of
executive secretary will be open to all members who wish to apply.
Members interested in applying should read the Xi State Rules and Bylaws to learn the requirements and
expectations of the position. The office requires a two-year contract. Those interested in filing an application
should contact Sandra Pineault, by mail, email [email protected], or by phone 615-890-4472, for an
application form. Applications are due by February 1, 2008, in order for the Personnel Committee to
consider and interview applicants.

that position are also due February 1.

Executive Board Ballot
December, 2007
Proposal 1: That Xi State support international expansion into the country of Estonia with a $500
contribution.
Rationale: The cost of installing a new state organization is approximately $2000. There is no
money budgeted in the current International budget for this. The cost includes the installation
paraphernalia (sash, brass instruments, Bible, flowers, etc.). North Carolina (Eta State
Organization) donated all these items last year when Denmark was installed as a new state
organization. International President Dr. Barbara Day has asked other state organization for help
with Estonia’s installation. While Xi State does not have enough budgeted to be the sole sponsor
of Estonia, we do have enough money budgeted to contribute $500.
Proposed By: Xi State President Nancy Davis and approved by the State Finance Committee
Financial Impact: $500
Approve
Proposal 2:
Disapprove
That Xi State set up and maintain a booth in the 2008 International Convention Market area.
Rationale: The purpose of the booth would be to publicize state organization projects (Books
from Birth, CIEC, Leadership Training, etc.) and to sell items that raise money for those
projects.
Proposed By: Xi State President Nancy Davis and approved by the State Finance Committee
Financial Impact: $75 for table rental

Dear Delta Kappa Gamma Sisters,
We are so excited about this year’s Legislative Symposium and Breakfast! We hope you will be able
to attend one or more events. This year, we want you to become informed about and involved in what
is occurring in Tennessee’s legislative arena. Therefore, we are asking that you research the issues
that are of importance to education and discuss these with your legislator.
In order to help you become more informed, we have several exciting guests lined up for Tuesday’s
Symposium. While other guests are being confirmed at this time, confirmed panelists include
Dr. Gary Nixon, chair of the State Board of Education, will discuss the guidelines set
forth by the State Board of Education for differentiated pay (already passed by the
Legislature), the American Diploma Project, and other critical issues.
Jerry Winters of the Tennessee Education Association will also be discussing various
issues on this year’s legislative agenda as well as ways to talk to your legislator.
Wednesday’s Legislative Breakfast will also be an exciting event with a guest speaker who will be
announced at a later date. This is always a good time of food, fellowship, and education. You will not
want to miss this event.
You will find the critical forms to be filled out with this letter. Please note the deadlines for turning
in the forms. We must have numbers to the hotel catering service very early.
Make your hotel reservations as soon as possible. Reservations can be made by calling the
Millennium Maxwell House at (800) 457-4460 and using the code DELTK or by going to
www.millenniumhotels.com/nashville and entering DELTK when prompted for the special
group rate. Rooms will be held until January 11, 2008, so reservations should be made before this
date. Rates are as follows: Single--$112, Double--$122, Triple--$132, Quad--$142.

XI STATE ORGANIZATION

Dear Chapter Presidents:
The Xi State Children’s International Education Center (CIEC) Committee would like to keep you and your
chapter informed of the current centers. Xi State began the first CIEC in 1981 as a project designed to
increase global understanding and enrich the lives of children. The centers have multicultural materials
including, books, music, artifacts, and language tapes. The centers are housed in public libraries.
Currently there are four active centers. These centers are located in Columbia, Martin, Nashville, and
Blountville. All centers have contact representatives that are Delta Kappa Gamma members. Xi State will
provide each active center with $200 this year to purchase materials. Spare change was collected from
members at our September Planning Conference for State Committees. This money will be divided and sent to
the four chapters, along with any contributions from your chapters. The centers depend, in part, on chapter and
member contributions to provide service to their communities.
Therefore, to assist the CIEC program, your state CIEC Committee asks each Delta Kappa Gamma chapter
to make a donation to one of the four centers or to the CIEC general fund. If your chapter chooses to
support this project, please have your treasurer complete the enclosed contribution form and send all donations
to our state treasurer, Linda McCrary. Also, please send a copy of the completed form to me at the address
listed below.
If your chapter would like to learn more about our CIEC project, please check out the state website at
www.xistate.org to view pictures and downloadable forms.
The CIEC Committee encourages all chapters to support this project. Please have donations and forms returned
to the appropriate individuals no later than March 31 to receive your points for the Chapter Excellence Award.
Sincerely,
Holley Ziglar, Gamma

XI STATE ORGANIZATION

Dear Xi State Members:
The World Fellowships Committee is hard at work during this new biennium and looking for ways to help your chapter
spark interest in World Fellowships and to increase chapter donations to provide these post-graduate scholarships to
deserving young women from around the world.
Every chapter has its own way of fund-raising for special causes. One chapter noted that they brought international dolls
to their meeting to focus attention on the work of World Fellowships. They voted to add one dollar ($1.00) to their annual
dues to help provide more scholarships. Another chapter brought house plants to swap at a silent auction with all the
proceeds going to World Fellowships. The program for that month was provided by a member who was also a Master
Gardener who provided useful tips for members who might not have a green thumb.
As a committee, we want to encourage local chapters to find “painless” ways of giving so that we can increase both the
percentage of chapters participating and the amount given by Xi State to support World Fellowships. Here are just a few
more ideas your chapter might consider:






Give a quarter for every child or grandchild that you have.
Give a (nickel, dime, etc.) for every year that you have taught.
Give a quarter for every vowel in your school’s name (or your name.)
Give a (nickel, dime, etc.) for every child in your homeroom/ classroom.
Give a quarter for every tube of lipstick in your purse.
Raffle off a gift basket or other “door prize” for a dollar donation. Draw names from a jar and present the winner
at the end of your chapter meeting.
We are sure that you can think of other “painless” ways to encourage your members to donate to World Fellowships.
Your chapter might focus on personal health and encourage members to participate in the “biggest loser” contest. At the
end of three or four months, encourage members to donate a quarter or fifty cents for every pound they have lost. They
will be healthier and your chapter will have more money to donate for scholarships. The list is endless.
One word of caution: Be sure to re-read your chapter policies to make sure that your fundraising efforts are not in
violation. Some chapters limit the number and types of fundraisers allowed for special causes.
The names of the new World Fellowships recipients have been posted on the international website. Ramona Justice has
divided the list of 33 names among the ten areas and sent those names to all area directors who will in turn assign one
World Fellowships recipient for each chapter to mentor during the coming year. If you have not already been contacted
by your area director, please contact her for your chapter’s adoptee.
Warmest regards,
Mary Wadley, Chair
World Fellowships Committee

Xi State Vision Foundation*
Dear Chapters,
As you plan and implement your philanthropic activities for 2007-2008, please remember the Xi State Vision
Foundation. The Xi State Executive Board established this non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) Foundation in June
2002, to assist Xi State members involved in research or special projects that have the potential to enhance
educational opportunities. In June 2004, the Xi State Vision Foundation awarded $1,500 for a member’s
professional growth experience at a national conference for kindergarten teachers and math manipulatives to be used
by kindergarten teachers. In June 2005, the Foundation funded a member to attend the National Art Education
Association Convention as a presenter and also funded the publication of a Sight Word book. In June 2006, the
Foundation funded a project to implement an art study program for gifted students and a project to create a “Test
Prep Day” in the week prior to the administration of the ACT. In June 2007, funds were awarded to Reading, Turbo
Extreme, and a Student/Teacher Tour of Spain. More projects will be funded in 2008!
Applications and guidelines for the Liz Whorley Bradley Professional Growth Award and the Vision Foundation
Project are available on the Xi State Website, http://www.xistate.org/. You will find the link to the forms and
guidelines in the menu at the left of the page. They are also printed in the September issue of the Xi State News. You
may also request applications from Leigh Anne Durham, Xi State Vision Foundation Selection Committee, 900
Anderson Drive, Paris, TN 38242-9506; Phone: (731) 642-3943; E-mail: [email protected]
Contributions in any amount are welcomed. You may mail your contribution, made payable to Xi State Vision
Foundation, to treasurer, Linda McCrary, PO Box 375, Red Boiling Springs, TN 37150. If you have questions,
Linda may be reached by phone or fax at 615.699.2705 or by e-mail: [email protected]. Please attach your check to
a Contribution Form and/or personal note indicating the contribution is a donation to the Xi State Vision Foundation.
Contributions to the Vision Foundation will help your chapter earn points for the Chapter Excellence Award.
Individual members and/or chapters may want to contribute to the Xi State Vision Foundation in the amount of
$1,000. Such donors will be recognized as Visionaries. This may be accomplished over a five-year period. For
individuals or chapters who contribute at the $1,000 level, the Board will award a 14k gold Visionary medallion as a
gift of appreciation. Contributions and/or bequests to the Foundation are tax exempt and help Xi State members to
grow professionally and provide excellent educational services.
Thank you for all that you do to support personal and professional growth for Xi State members and excellence in
education. We would be most appreciative if you would duplicate this letter and share it with your chapter members.
Gratefully,
Doris Ann Hendrix
