BREASTSCREEN VICTORIA INC POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Radiographer, Mobile Screening Service REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Mobile Screening Service & State Radiographer EMPLOYMENT BASIS: FULL TIME OR JOB SHARE EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Ongoing REMUNERATION: Level 6 DATE REVIEWED: March 2014 Organisational context BreastScreen Victoria is part of a national breast cancer screening program offering women aged 50 and over free screening mammograms every two years. BreastScreen Victoria aims to reduce deaths from breast cancer through early detection of the disease. Jointly funded by the Victorian State Government and the Commonwealth Government, BreastScreen Victoria comprises a state-wide network of eight screening and assessment centres, 32 fixed screening locations and 30 mobile screening locations, conducting close to 200,000 screening mammograms annually. BreastScreen Victoria is made up of two components: the BreastScreen Victoria Coordination Unit (BCU) and the Screening and Assessment Services. BCU is an independently incorporated association which administers funding for the Screening and Assessments Services, manages the centralised appointment registry, coordinates the Mobile Screening Service, manages client screening and assessment data, develops and reviews Program policy, monitors service provision, coordinates special projects and supports state-wide recruitment. BCU is managed by the Chief Executive Officer who is accountable to a ministerial-appointed Board of Management. Screening and Assessment Services (SAS) provide all clinical services from the initial screening mammogram to any further procedures required to the point of diagnosis. BreastScreen Victoria is proud to have developed strong relationships with both the public and private health service providers who manage the daily operation of the Screening and Assessment Services. BreastScreen Victoria sets targets to increase screening participation by both the national and state governments: BreastScreen Australia’s National Accreditation Standards set a target of 70% participation for eligible women (aged 50-69 years). BSV’s current participation rate is 54%. The Victorian Government’s Cancer Action Plan requires that by 2013: o participation rates in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups will increase by 10 percent o BSV will offer an additional 20,000 mammograms per annum. BreastScreen Victoria Position description – MSS Radiographer March 2014 In 2010, several reviews/ activities were conducted aimed at increasing participation in the service. These are now being implemented and have resulted in a new focus on a strong media presence as a means of communicating with women about breast screening. Team Overview The Operations Unit encompasses four Program support units and the Mobile Screening Service. The Program support units incorporate: Service Delivery (including Registry and Appointment Scheduling) - planning service delivery to meet Program objectives Call Centre – inbound and outbound calls and centralised mail room. Information Management- data and information management functions Planning and Quality - Quality improvement and accreditation Role Objective In conjunction with one other Radiographer, or alone as required, be responsible for the efficient operation of a mobile mammography screening service that includes the attainment of high standards of mammography quality and client support, as well as care and maintenance of on board equipment. Level of supervision and independence The Mobile Screening Service operates in various locations throughout regional Victoria as required by BreastScreen Victoria. The van locations are managed by the MSS Coordinator at BCU, with 2 mobile radiographers allocated to each van working autonomously, but in partnership with a fellow radiographer. Whilst continual telephone and occasional on site visits are provided by the MSS Coordinator and the Statewide Radiographer, the MSS Radiographer is expected to competent in the role to require no direct supervision whilst performing in the role. BreastScreen Victoria Position description – MSS Radiographer March 2014 RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO) 1 Key Responsibility Perform screening mammograms daily ensuring that examinations are performed in an efficient and competent manner, taking into consideration National Accreditation Standards, Radiation Safety procedures and Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Key outcomes Fulfilling requirements of appointment schedules set for each location in a safe and efficient manner. 2 Ensure the accurate data identification of clients and images while adhering to established procedures. 3 Provide a caring and empathetic environment for women requiring screening services Positive client feedback 4 Ensure that patient care and comfort are of the highest standard Positive client feedback 5 6 7 8 9 10 Perform routine QA procedures, including those specified in the NAS, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and service procedures manuals Responsible for the day-to-day management of all radiographic and ancillary equipment, including the recording of equipment faults and the necessity for emergency maintenance Provide client reception & mammogram duties, including meet & greet and all associated data entry. Participate in vehicle set-up, set-down and security activities as specified in the Mobile Screening Services Procedure Manual Assist with new staff orientation (including Locums) of MSS and related procedures and protocols Fulfil requirements for Continuous Professional Development. Position description – MSS Radiographer March 2014 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Academic Qualifications ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Tertiary qualifications acceptable to the Professional Accreditation and Education Board of the Australian Institute of Radiography Current Victorian driver’s license Registration from the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia to practice in the state of Victoria in accordance with the Health (Medical Radiation Technologists) Regulations of 1997 Certificate of Clinical Proficiency in Mammography (CCPM) or working towards same.
