Wieland Electric Increases
Output Current Rating for
Programmable Safety
Controller to 4 Amps
Wieland Electric Inc., a leading global manufacturer of innovative
electrical interconnect technology, has increased the output
current for its programmable safety controllers to 4 amps, giving
machine design engineers a more versatile and cost-effective
means of safely switching loads in a range of industrial machine
safety circuits.

Each output of the samos Pro programmable safety controller is
now capable of switching up to 4 amps, giving the devices a
higher output current rating.
“In addition to the increased output current rating, the

samos Pro Series controllers have been designed to provide
maximum machine uptime,” said Nick Styler, safety specialist at
Wieland Electric. “In the event of a short circuit, the controller is
designed to only switch off power outputs from the locally
affected module, while maintaining power to other modules of
the safety system. This enables machine operators and
technicians to troubleshoot the problem circuit without
interrupting other elements of the system.”

The Wieland samos Pro Series programmable safety controllers
are approved for monitoring and control of machines in safety
applications up to Category 4 (EN954-1), PLe (EN13849-1) and
SIL3 (EN626061) standards. The modular configuration can start
with as few as 8 inputs and 4 outputs and be scaled to an
impressive 384 inputs and 192 outputs. The 22.5mm wide DIN
®
rail mounted samos Pro Series modules are rated for 24Vdc
input power (nominal), and are available with either screw clamp
or cage clamp pluggable terminals. The programming software,
samosPLAN, is available at no charge and offers a simple and
intuitive programming interface, powerful simulation tools, and
effective troubleshooting and reporting functions.
