ARMED FORCES DAY
Saturday 24 & 25 June 2017
A celebratory event to show Suffolk’s appreciation of the work of the Armed Forces is to be
held in Felixstowe this year. 2017 marks the 350th anniversary of the Dutch attack on
Landguard Fort in Felixstowe. To mark the occasion, and to recognise the huge contribution
made by our servicemen and women from the past until the present day, Felixstowe has
been chosen as the venue for Suffolk Armed Forces weekend. A weekend of action-packed entertainment is
planned, a one off free event for all age groups. 2 There will be a unique package of entertainment including
music from choirs, military bands, an evening of pop and rock, military displays, food stalls, children’s activities
and fireworks, and some thrilling battle re-enactments between the Dutch and English with cannon, muskets
and swords. All this by Felixstowe’s fantastic seaside with all that has to offer as well!:00
LEISURE CENTRE BOOST – DEBEN POOL
The Deben Leisure Centre redevelopment project in Woodbridge has been given a major
boost by Sport England National Lottery Funding. They have awarded £500,000 from their
improvement fund to support Suffolk Coastal in improving the leisure centre. Work on Deben
Leisure Centre is planned to begin in September 2017 and will last for approximately 10
months. During this time, a full closure is required, due to the nature of the site and the work
being undertaken. It’s hoped that works will be completed by summer 2018. Plans for the leisure facility, include a new more
spacious gym, and the pool area will feature a new health suite with a steam room, sauna and ice room. The plans also include
the addition of purpose built family changing areas and separate changing facilities for use by schools and the provision of two
studios, one to incorporate a spin room and the other for fitness classes, which will also be available for community hire.
New Electronic Recycling Points:
It is now even easier for residents in and around Woodbridge to recycle their electronic
waste. Collection containers for small electrical and electronic appliances have been
placed at the recycling centre behind the Deben Pool swimming pool in Station Road,
Woodbridge. The new facilities enable residents to deposit waste items such as hairdryers,
kettles, toasters, electric clocks, irons, food mixers, DVD players, radios and small
electrical hand tools and will be serviced by our partners, Suffolk Coastal Norse.

Bottle Banks Located at the Premier Shop
Please do not leave any other glass items (ie fish tanks or kettles) at the
bottle bank as this could be classed as fly tipping. Please leave your caps on
bottles and jars, these can be recycled too! Separate into different colours for
recycling into the bins (Blue is for clear and blue glass, and Green is for
brown and green glass). Remember you can also recycle empty glass jars too and all metal lids
and tops can be left on the bottles to be separated in the recycling process.
Please do not leave bottles on the ground beside over-flowing banks please use the following contact
details for reporting full banks: 01394 444000 or email [email protected]. Larger glass items such as
window panes, mirrors or glass tables can be recyled at all 11 Household Waste Recycling
Centres in Suffolk.
One of our residents at Chequerfield will be doing a
sponsored Zip wire challenge to raise money for two dog
rescues on the Titan Zip wire at Zipworld in Wales. She will
be 80 years young and celebrating this great age 500
meters above the ground. She would greatly appreciate any
help you can give. If you would like to
sponsor her please do so on
www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/Jane_for_greyhounds.

then the public will have an opportunity to ask questions. The local Inspector responsible for
policing in the local area, will add operational context.

Thursday 2nd November at Woodbridge School, Burkitt Road, Woodbridge IP12 4JH
ALLOTMENTS
Since our last newsletter there has been a large uptake on the availability of
allotments. So much so that there are only 3 plots left. Now is the time to get
planting so please contact Dan Leaver on 01394 420156 or
[email protected]. Plots are still available at £20 per year.
MARTLESHAM HEATH PARK AND RIDE
Many if you may have heard rumours regarding the closure of
Martlesham Heath Park and Ride. We have been informed that the
service provided at the Park and Ride terminal will continue albeit
with changes to the operator, facilities at the actual location and to
the routes. There are changes afoot but we have had assurance that
the customer will see little difference, and all current travel opportunities will be at the very least
retained. It is intended to combine some services at the Martlesham site with services to local
coastal areas. The plans and timetables are still in the planning process and require to be formatted
to meet statutory requirements. It is anticipated that all this information will be available in July.
Good news for EE customers. The mobile phone operator has confirmed that they have
completed various 4G upgrades throughout Suffolk Coastal including Woodbridge.
The have also improved 4G along some of the major roads, including the A14 (two
upgrades on the section going east out of Ipswich), A114, A1152 (around Rendlesham),
three upgrades on the A12, the B1119, the B1387, the B1123 and the A1094.
SPEEDING ON THE ESTATE
There have been some complaints from residents regarding the
speed at which some drivers are driving around Sutton Heath
Estate. You are reminded that there are speed limits to be
upheld, but most importantly there are small children and others who are
vulnerable. PLEASE LOWER YOUR SPEED, ESPECIALLY WEST SIDE OF THE ESTATE
WHERE THERE ARE STOP SIGNS AND GIVEWAY JUNCTIONS. PLEASE ADHERE TO
THEM!!!!
Tougher punishments for the most serious speeding offences have come into force in England
and Wales. Fines for drivers caught doing 51mph in a 30mph zone or 101mph on a motorway will start
from 150% of weekly income, rather than the previous level of 100%.The new fines will allow the worst
offenders to face fines of between 125 and 175% of their weekly income - with the starting point for
magistrates in most cases set at 150%.The maximum fine remains the same a speeding driver cannot be
fined more than £1,000 unless the offence takes place on a motorway, where the limit is £2,500
