First: Before developing your community event flyer: Clearly identify your communication goal. Ask: What event are we promoting and what attitudes or behaviors do we want to change or promote? Discuss what the benefits are for the audience you want to attend – the reasons why your audience should want to do whatever it is you’re trying to get them to do. Decide who your primary audience is so you can make sure your content will work for them. Develop your flyer concept. Sketch out some ideas for words, sentences, and visuals by using the answers in the bullets above. Second: When creating your community event flyer: Include your ACT on Alzheimer’s community logo or the standard ACT logo (find this at http://www.collectiveactionlab.com/content/logo-use-and-restrictions) Use the ACT on Alzheimer’s brand font and purple color, along with black and other complementary colors you choose o If you prepare your flyer using Microsoft Office (Word, etc.), use Calibri as the font o If your flyer is professionally designed, use Helvetica Neue as the font o The brand purple color is PMS 269 (for professional printing) or RGB (R70, G22, B107) when you create in Word and use office/home printers Write a headline that is short, snappy, and connects somehow to the reader’s life Make your case for why people should attend by using the words/sentences you sketched out above; it’s best to have a couple strong statements than a long list that dilutes your message Use images (photos/graphics/icons)that people can identify with and that fit the message Make sure you include all the event details: host, date, time, place, contact and RSVP info At the bottom, when appropriate, include a “learn more” statement, sponsors, or a businessrelated or disclaimer statement Third: A simple design that includes some open space is best!
