From the Pastor
Last Sunday I began a sermon series on New Testament prayers for the
church with the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonian church. Paul
begins with thanksgiving because this fairly new Christian work, with
converts young in faith, has sustained growth despite considerable
opposition. Furthermore the gospel has spread through their influence.
“We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our
prayers. 3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced
by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by
hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Paul models
prayer that is consistent, persistent and regular eg “we always” and “we
continually mention you”. This is great example for us. The prayer is
addressed to “our God and Father”. This causes us to think about how we
address God in prayer and about the confidence we have in praying to the
God who is approachable because of the relationship he establishes with
us in Christ. I have set the core part of the prayer into a table to highlight
the layers. The distinction between work and labour is interesting. The
verbs in the middle column are dynamic and the characteristics in the third
column are crucial. Let this prayer continue to inform our faith and
practise.
Your work
produced
by faith
Your labour
prompted
by love
inspired
by hope
Your endurance
Welcome to any visitors today. Please come and join with us

Church Annual Meeting
On Sunday 13th August we will have our AGM. Annual reports from church
groups and coordinators should be given to Maelor by Sunday 23 rd July. The
Church Annual Report will be published for distribution on the Sunday prior to the
AGM, 6th August. On that same day nominations for the Leadership Team will
close at 10am so we can announce the nominees at that service. Nomination
forms will be provided in July, but for now let us be be praying about the
Leadership Team. Current members are Maelor Himbury, Sue Pond and Arnold
Rogers. Maelor and Arnold will be eligible for re-election this year.
Parkinson’s Support Group
We provide a meeting place for The Essendon Parkinson’s Support group and
they often express their appreciation for the assistance of the Church and the time
I (Ken) spend with them. The group is going through a tough time of transition as
their long serving and highly motivated leader Fred Van Ross has relinquished his
leadership of the group and moved away. They will farewell Fred and thank him
at their July meeting. Ask God to guide the group as they find the way forward. I
(Ken) have offered to assist the group. Many people from the community suffer
with Parkinson’s and even at the monthly meeting held on Wednesday there were
three new people looking for support.
Guest Speakers
In the July and August we will have special speakers on Sundays as follows
 July 16 Dr Rachel Carling-Jenkins MLC our local member for Western
Metropolitan in the Upper House of the Victorian Parliament. Rachel is a
committed Christian. She will share some Biblical reflection and will speak on
matters of current interest and concern.
 August 20 Paul and Lydia Morton-Zandt are Global Interaction candidates
preparing to go to Cambodia. Our Church has committed support to them.
They will visit us so as to continue to build our support relationship.
