& Insight Manager
Job Description
Introduction
Welcome and thank-you for your interest in this role. This pack includes further information
about this position and context, to help you decide if this is the role for you.
About Action on Hearing Loss
Communication is a basic human need. Yet most of us know someone who struggles to
communicate through hearing loss. It can cause substantial harm to friendships, family
relationships, confidence, employability, mental health and life chances.
Action on Hearing Loss (formerly the RNID) is the UK’s largest charity for the 11 million people
in the UK who confront deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss every day. Established in 1911,
we help people to take control of their lives and live the life they choose, removing the barriers
standing in their way. We give people support and care, develop technology and treatments,
and campaign for equality.
Action on Hearing Loss is growing rapidly on the back of a new brand, a new and highly
ambitious long-term strategy, Taking Action, and a long term investment plan in fundraising.
Last year we helped more people with hearing loss than ever before. Our annual report and
website show how we’ve changed the world for the people we help – see our website for
more information.
About the role
The Fundraising, Marketing and Comms (FMC) group raises some £14m per year to fund
our mission and manages our brand and profile. We are growing rapidly on the back of a
strategy with some highly ambitious goals.
Our Fundraising Operations Department aims ensure the FMC group operates to the highest
standards of effectiveness, efficiency and compliance, providing the firm foundations for

growth. The 11-strong team manages Data & Insight, Supporter Care and Legacy
Administration, and enables group- and charity-wide change.
We are looking for an experienced data specialist to lead our Database Marketing & Insight
function. The post holder will manage a high performing team to deliver data services,
including data selections, reporting, insight and analysis, to internal clients across a range of
fundraising departments.
It’s an exciting time for Action on Hearing Loss, we have recently launched a new
Fundraising database (the Raiser’s Edge) which will help support delivery of continued
fundraising growth. We’re looking for someone who can help us to continue the work already
started in improving our data quality, streamlining processes and brining further data sets
into the database. This is a key role within the organisation, and we are looking for someone
who can produce a step change in the charity’s ability to analyse supporter data and who will
drive development of insight into customer behaviour and fundraising performance.
The role offers a great opportunity to make the most of your technical and people skills, to
work with colleagues across a range of professional disciplines in a supportive environment
and at the same time make a real difference to the lives of people who are deaf, with hearing
loss, and with tinnitus.
The successful applicant needs a mix of exceptional attention to detail, an eye for efficiency,
a passion for problem solving, the tenacity and communication skills to facilitate change and
the ability to see the bigger picture impact of developments. Previous experience in the
charity sector is important due to the importance of understanding of sector compliance;
experience of specific tools is not essential but would be beneficial; talent, the right mix of
skills, an enquiring mind, and passion for social change are a must.
This role offers a rare opportunity to support the ongoing development of a hardworking,
high performing, operational department, which supports and underpins the Charity’s
Fundraising and Marketing Functions. Working as part of a highly motivated and high quality
organisation in a supportive work environment committed to development.
