Adult Volunteer Induction Programme Self-Learning Package Workbook for Staff Cadets, Civilian Instructors, Service Instructors & Padres Name Squadron Foreword by Commandant RAF Air Cadets Welcome to the RAF Air Cadets . You have just joined the UK’s leading uniformed youth organisation. The Air Training Corps has aviation at the heart of its activities and is fully supported by the Royal Air Force. There is something for everyone in the Air Cadets and I encourage you to explore every opportunity on offer, be it flying and gliding, adventurous training, sport, music, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, drill and ceremonial, academic studies, community and charity work, shooting and camping. Please always remember that the Air Cadets are the public face of the Royal Air Force and we therefore expect you to wear your corporate wear/uniform with pride and to behave in a way that reflects the professionalism, discipline and high standards of the Royal Air Force. Our motto is “Venture Adventure” and I very much hope that you will have lots of fun and excitement during your time as an adult volunteer. As you start your journey as an adult volunteer, I wish you every success along the way. Our amazing team of volunteers will enable you to learn new skills and achieve your full potential – but only if you are prepared to make the effort required. So, work hard and have fun - you are with like-minded people and are now, a very welcome member of the Air Cadet family. If you are returning or continuing as a Staff Cadet, then thank you for your continued support. Whether new or continuing your service, arriving into a new working environment or role can be daunting and we realise that it is important for you to receive as much support as possible in settling in. The RAF Air Cadets relies on its cadre of volunteers and it is therefore very important to ensure that they are properly inducted into the organisation to ensure: Their smooth entry into the RAF Air Cadets by introducing them to the organisation, the people, the work environment and its culture. They are provided with essential information and training. They are provided with an idea as to the opportunities available to them and future training requirements. The organisation displays its commitment to the welfare and development of staff. 2. You will have hopefully received your Squadron Induction/Visit from your Squadron Commander and been informed of this Self-Learning Package Workbook. 3. You can either download this workbook or print it off but either way you should aim to take part in all of the activities over the next 6 months. Your Sqn Cdr, or a nominated Training Officer should sit down with you from time-to-time to monitor your progress and help you if you have any issues. The tasks are not difficult and should aim to introduce you gently into the organisation, culminating in a Briefing day (which might be part of Training Weekend). 4. On completion of the workbook, you should get the Certificate of Completion signed and should then retain your copy for any future reference. Additional Training 5. Induction training may only be the start for you. You will be faced with all sorts of opportunities to support the Air Cadets and to develop yourself. If engaged in any cadet training activities you will receive Heartstart/First Aid training but other opportunities you may wish to consider are: Instructor Training – Leading to BTEC qualifications. Adventure Training National Governing Body qualifications. Shooting qualifications. Duke of Edinburgh. Sports Coaching qualifications. Flying Instructor qualifications 6. As civilian instructors, you may also have the opportunity to progress into uniform and take on the responsibility of supporting the running of a Squadron, eventually commanding a Squadron or Sector, being a Wg Staff Officer or ultimately Commanding a Wing. Should this be the case, you will receive training from the Adult Training Facility at Cranwell. Ask your Sqn Cdr or Trg Officer for more information as you get settled. 3 Induction Pathway Visit Squadron Attend Introduction evening and interview Complete application pack with WSO Workbook issued Start Induction Training Send DBS to Wing on receipt Cleared for Squadron based activities Attend Adult Induction Briefing Appointed member of staff 4 SELF-LEARNING PACKAGE Squadron Induction DURATION AUDIENCE PRE-REQUISITE LEARNING DELIVERY METHOD DELIVERY LOCATION One Evening or during subsequent visits.
