KEAN’S SABO NAMED NJAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR;
RAMAPO’S FITZIMMONS & WPU’S PODMAJERSKY CO-PITCHERS OF THEY YEAR
Pitman, NJ—Kean University senior second baseman Emily Sabo (Rahway, NJ/Rahway)
has been named the NJAC Softball Player of the Year, while Ramapo College sophomore righthander Erin Fitzsimmons (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) and William Paterson University senior righthander Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South) have been named NJAC Softball
Co-Pitchers of the Year. Their selections highlighted the 37-member 2017 NJAC Softball AllConference team which was announced on May 4. All selections were made via a vote of the league’s
10 head coaches and were based on conference-only statistics.
A four-time NJAC first-team all-conference selection, Sabo finished her final NJAC regular
season as the league-leader in both conference-only batting average (.519) and conference-only onbase percentage (.581). A Week 9 NJAC Player of the Week honoree in 2017, she also ranked
second in conference-only slugging percentage (.833) and third in conference-only hits (28).
A two-time NJAC Pitcher of the Week selection during the 2017 season, Fitzsimmons finished
the conference season as the league-leader in conference-only opposing batting average (.181),
while tying for the league-lead in NJAC pitching victories (8). She also finished third in conferenceonly ERA (1.17) and 11th in conference-only strikeouts (23).
A three-time NJAC all-conference honoree, Podmajersky wrapped up her final NJAC regular
season as the league-leader in both conference-only strikeouts (53) and conference-only strikeouts
looking (21). A two-time NJAC Pitcher of the Week selection in 2017, she also finished second in
conference-only earned run average (1.07) and fourth in conference-only opposing batting average
(.217).
Montclair State University freshman second baseman Kaylee Powers (Newton, NJ/Pope
John XXIII) was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year. A first-team all-conference selection, she
finished her first NJAC regular season ranked fourth in conference-only runs (18) and sixth in
conference-only walks (9). A Week 10 NJAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Powers also finished ninth
in conference-only batting average (.441).
Ramapo College head coach Bridgette Quimpo was selected as the NJAC Coach of the
Year by her peers. Selected to finish fourth in the 2017 NJAC coaches’ preseason poll, Quimpo has
led the Roadrunners to a 27-7 overall record and the NJAC regular season championship via a 17-1
mark in league play. Now in her fourth season at the helm of the Ramapo program, Quimpo has
guided the Roadrunners to an overall record of 94-53-1, giving her 229 total victories during her
collegiate head coaching career.
